arthakriyākāritā hi sattā, nāparā kācidasti /
sā ca krama-yaugapadyābhyāṃ vyāptā, tṛtīyakoṭivirahāt1022 /

tatrāgrimapakṣaparigrahe sarvāsāmarthakriyāṇāmekasminneva kṣaṇe kṛtatvāt, kṛtasya ca punaḥ karaṇānupapatteḥ, anantarakṣaṇer'thakriyāsāmarthyaśūnyatvāt, asallakṣaṇatvāpatterakṣaṇikatvahāniḥ /
dvitīyavikalpāvalambane tu 1024kadācidapi tator'thakriyā nodīyata iti, asallakṣaṇatvāpattireva /
syānmatam---samartho 'pi svabhāvato bhāvassahakārisamavadhānavaśena kadācitkaroti, tadabhāvāccānyadā neti /
tadapi vimardaṃ na kṣamate /

dhruvabhāvī ca kṛtakānāṃ vināśa iti, viruddhavyāptopalabdhaliṅgakamanumānaṃ vināśasya hetvantarāpekṣitāṃ pratikṣipita /
dhruvabhāvitā hi niṣidhyamānahetvantarāpekṣitvaviruddhanirapekṣatvavyāptopalabdhā1042 vināśasya hetvantarānapekṣitāmupasthāpayati /
sā ca svaviruddhaṃ hetvanatarāpekṣitvaṃ nirākaroti /
ye hi hetvantarapekṣāḥ, te dhruvabhāvino na bhavanti /
yathā--- vāsasi rāgādayaḥ /
ato hetvantaropakṣitvaviruddhatannirapekṣatvavyāptadhruvabhāvitvasya yopalabdhiḥ, saivādhruvabhāvitvasyānupalabdhiḥ /
adhruvabhāvitvasyānupalabdheḥ, vināśasya hetvantarāpekṣā nāsti /
tathā yadi bhāvā api svahetubhyo hetvantaraṃ vināśaṃ pratyapekṣeran, tatastasya hetvantarasya sannidhānaniyame pramāṇābhāvāt, kaścitkṛtako 'pi na vinaśyet /
svahetostu vinaśvarasyodaye 'nantaramevāpavarga iti, kṣaṇabhaṅguratvasiddhiḥ /
api cedaṃ cintanīyam, kiṃ kṛtakā bhāvāssvahetubhyassamupajāyamānā vinaśvarasvabhāvā eva jāyante ? avināśvarasvabhāvā1043--- vā ? vinaśvara---svabhāvā udayānantarameva līyanta iti kṣaṇabhaṅginaḥ /
avinaśvarasvabhāvāstu na kadācidvinaśyeyuḥ /
na ca hetvantarātteṣāṃ 1044vināśaḥ, vikalpāsahatvāt /
sa hi jāyamāno vanāśo bhāvādavyatirekī ? vyatirekī vā /
na tāvadavyatirekī, hetubhedāt /
vyatirekiṇi tu jāte, bhāvasya prāgvadupalabdhyādiprasaṅgaḥ /
tena tirodhīyata iti kalpanāyāmapi, tirodhānaṃ pratyeṣaṃ vikalpo vācya1045 ityalamatiprasaṅgena /

yarthaiva khalvabhinnadeśakālaṃ vastvekatayā cakāsti, tathā bhinnadeśakālamapyekatayaiva parisphuratīti, tathāvidhasaṃvedanodayaśca naikavijñānamantareṇeti, ekamevedaṃ vijñānamurarīkaraṇīyam /
kāryasadbhāvopapādanāyāpratītamapi kāraṇaṃ parikalpanīyam, na punaḥ kāraṇamukhanirīkṣaṇena spaṣṭadṛṣṭakāryaviparyayaḥ paryālocanīyaḥ /
tena yadyapi kavalādindriyāt, kevalāt pūrvānubhavasamāsāditajanmano bhāvanābhidhānāt saṃskārādvā naivaṃvighamidaṃ vijñānumudetumarhati /
tathāpi tayoranyonyasamavadhānasamāsāditadaśāntarayoridaṃ kāryamityācāryā1048 menire //

pratyakṣamevevedaṃ na bhavatīti, satyapi saṃskāropayoge, indriyavyāpārādhīnajanmatayāsya prathamasamāgamasamayabhāvinassakalavādināmapahastitavivādānāṃ pratyakṣasammatādaviśeṣāt /
na cedaṃ pramāṇābhāsamityatra kiñcana pramāṇamasti, bādha-kāraṇadoṣaviṣayasaṃvedanāntaravirahāt /
na cedamevānumānaṃ bādhakamiti cittamanurajyate, parasparāśrayadoṣasamāsakteḥ /
yāvatkhalvetadvijñānamabādhitam, tāvadanumānameva nodetuṃ prabhavati, sañjāte cānumāne bādhitāmidaṃ bhavatīti, viśadataramitaretarāśrayatvam1049 /
abādhitaviṣayatā1050 cāpi kāraṇamanumānodaye, anyathā hutavahe śītatā kimiti nānumīyate /

kathaṃ punarakṣaṇikasyār'thakriyākāritā ? krameṇeti vadanti /
sa khalu sahakārisamavadhānopahitaviśeṣāṃ bhāvastāṃ tāmarthakriyāṃ krameṇaiva samapādayati /
nanu vikalpitaṃ-sahakāribhiḥ kiṃ vyatiriktaḥ, avyatirikte vā viśeṣa ādhīyata iti, dūṣaṇāni ceha vikalpayugale pūrvamāveditāni /

tathāvidhaviśeṣālīḍhataiva tasya sādhanatā, yadanantaramarthakriyodayaḥ, tadviśeṣayogitayaiva bhāveṣu sādhanatavavyavahāro laukikānām /
kathaṃ punarasau viśeṣastasyeti vyapadiśyate, tadāśrayatayaivānumānāt /

svahetuvaśeneti matavā nivartatāṃ bhavāt, alamasmābhirdūramanuyātaiḥ /
atha kasmādbhāvasyaiva bhedo nānumīyate, pratyabhijñānānuguṇyāditi vadāmaḥ /
dṛṣṭānusāri cānumānamucitam, dṛṣṭopapattimukhatvāt /

tena sthāvare 'pyarthakriyāvyāpakakra-yaugapadyānivṛtterasiddho vyāpakānupalambhaḥ, 1063tadasiddhau ca viparyaye bādhakābhāvāt, asiddhatanmātrānubandhinīṃ kṣaṇikatāṃ na sattā sādhayitumalam, anaikāntikatvāditi /
na cār'thakriyākāritaiva sattā, kintu 1064pramāṇasambandhayogyatā /

kaṃ khalu bhavanto vināśamabhimanyante ? pradhvaṃsābhāvo vināśa iti cet---kaḥ punaḥ pradhvaṃsābhāvaḥ ?"dadhni kṣīraṃ nāstīstye" vamādikā bhāvaviṣayā saṃviditi vadyucyeta, tadāmṛtakalāyāmuditā nītiruddharaṇīyā1067 /
na hi nāstī"ti buddhirasti /
kintu dadhisvarūpamātrānubhava eva svayamprakāśe nañśabdaprayogamātrameva, saiva hi payaso nāstitā, yā dṛśye 'pi tasmin dadhisvarūpamātropalabdhiḥ /
na ca tāṃ prati payasa eva nirapekṣasya hetutā, anupanipatite hetvantare, payasa evopalabdhe /
na cedaṃ payonataramupalabhyata iti śakyaṃ vaktum /
pratyabhijñānasyābhedasādhakatvāt /
nanu ca hetvantarāpekṣitve dhruvabhāvitā nopapadyate /
dhruvabhāvitā nopapadyate /
dhruvabhāvitaiva kuto 'vagamyate ? darśanāditi cet ? hetvantareṇāpyavaśyaṃ bhavitavyamiti, darśanādevāvagamyatām /
na ca bālā vayaṃ1068 yenaivaṃvidhavādād bhīṣayāmahe /
yatpunaridaṃ svahetubhyo bhāvānāmapi naśvarāṇāmutpattau, hetvantarāyatte vināśe, vyatirekiṇi jāte 'pi pūrvavat bhāvasyopalabdhyādiprasaṅga iti /
atrocyate---uktamasmābhiḥ---yathā tanmātropalabdhireva vināśa iti /
tena tasyā hetusadbhāvāt tayaiva bhavitavyam /
anupalabdhirapitasya saivetyanupalabdhireva tasya nopalabdhiḥ, tannibandhanaścābhāvavyavahāro 'pīti sarvamanākulam /
sugatāśīviṣaviṣamakṣaṇabhaṅgaviṣānalāvalīḍhasāyāḥ /
mīmāṃsāyāṃ vihitā1069 marmamayī jīvarakṣeyam // 1 //
iti mahāmahopādhyāyaśrīśālikānāthamiśrapraṇītāyāṃ prakaraṇapañcikāyāṃ mīmāṃsājīvarakṣā nāma daśamaṃ prakaraṇaṃ samāptam //
