na mīmāṃsāśāstramārambhaṇīyamiti /
taddhi vedavākyārthavicāropāyabhūtanyāyanibandhanam /
na ca vedavākyārtho vicāryo 'sti, yo vicārasya viṣayabhūtaḥ /
nāpyasau vicārya nirṇītaḥ prayojanamavakalpate, apuruṣārthatvāt /
puruṣārthatve hi tasya codanaiva pramāṇaṃ syāt /
na cāvivakṣitārthā sā pramāṇaṃ bhavitumarhati /
nanu śabdānāmautpattikatvādarthaparatvasya nāvivakṣitārthatā yuktā /
satyamevam /
vedenaiva tvanyaparatāmavagamayatāvivakṣitārthatā'padyamānā na śakyā vārayitum /

na ca vrīhīnavahantītivanniyamārtho vidhiriti śakyate vaktum, akratvarthatvādadhyayanasya /
na khalvadhyayanasya hi kratāveva niyamyante, na taṇḍulādisvarūpe /
avadhātenaiva sampāditaistaṇḍulaiḥ kratuphalasiddhiriti pramāṇāntarasyāviṣayatvāttenaiva siddhiriti na kiñcidviruddham /
svādhyāyasvarūpagrahaṇaṃ tvadhyayanenaiva sidhyatīti niyamyamānaṃ mānāntaraviruddham, svayamanadhīyānasyāpi parapuruṣādhīyamānasvādhyāyagrahaṇadarśanāt /
na cādhyayanasvīkṛtenaiva svādhyāyena kratuphalabhāvanāsiddhiriti akratvarthatayā kratusaṃsparśābhāvena niyamānupapatteriti /
etenaivārthāvabodhasyāpi bhāvyatayā sambandho nirasto veditavyaḥ /
tathā hi---
yadyapyadhītātsvādhyāyātphalavatkarmāvabodho dṛśyata iti tasyaiva bhāvyatāvasīyate, tathāpi vināpi vidhinānvayavyatirekābhyāmadhyayanasyārthāvabodhasādhanatvāvamādvidhiranarthaka eva /
na cādhyayanenaivārthāvabodho bhāvayitavya iti niyamavidherarthavattā, prakārāntareṇāpi tatsaṃbhavānniyamānupapatteḥ /
na cādhyayanenaivārthamavabudhyānutiṣṭhatāṃ kratuphalabhāvanāsiddhiriti niyamaḥ saṃbhavati, akratvarthatvādadhyayanasya /
2tasmādviśvajinnyāyena svarge eva bhāvyatayā kalpayitavye prāpte phalamātreyo3 nirddeśādityarthavādikamadhughṛtakulyāditṛptapitrādiprasādalabhyasavrakāmaphapalāvāptireva bhāvyatayāvasīyate /

tayā ca preraṇayā saha yo liṅādīnāṃ vācyavācakabhāvaḥ sambandhaḥ, sa tatra yogyatayā karaṇam /

"liṅādayo hi preraṇāṃ kurvantyabhidadhati ceti" tantravā- 1. 2. 1.ṭa /
pravartyarucyutpādanayogyatayā cārthavādikī stutiritikartavyatā /
tadevamadhyayanavidhau sākṣādaśrutārthavādake śabdabhāvanāyāmitikartavyatābhūtārthavādākāṅkṣiṇyāṃ japayajñādhyayanādatideśenārthavādāḥ svīkriyante /
tadāhurvārtikakāramiśrāḥ---
"anuṣaṅgānumānādyairlabhyante 'nye 'tideśataḥ" iti /
te cātidiṣṭā arthavādā arthabhāvanāyāṃ phalaṃ samarpayanti rātrisatravat /
evamārthavādike phale bhāvyatayāvasite 'dhyayanaṃ samānapadopāttaṃ karaṇākāṅkṣāparipūrakatvena saṃbadhyate /
evañca 8yadaikasmādapūrvaṃ tadetarattadarthamiti nyāyena svādhyāyaśabdavācyo 'kṣararāśirapyadhyayananirvṛttyartha evāvasīyate /
evañcānyaparatvādakṣarāṇāṃ tebhyo 'rthapratipattirevānupapannā, vyutpattivirahāt /
vṛddhavyavahāre hyananyaparāṇyevākṣarāṇyarthāvabodhakatayā vyutpannāni /
vyutpattyapekṣaśca śabdo 'rthāvabodhakaḥ /
yaḥ punaranyaparebhyo 'pyakṣarebhyo 'rthāvagamaḥ, sa sāmānyatodṛṣṭanibandhanānanyaparatvabhrāntyā bhrāntireveti mantavyam /
apratīyamānaścārtho na vicārasya viṣayaḥ, nāpi prayojanamiti vicārastāvannārabdhavyaḥ, tadanārambhe ca tadapāyabhūtanyāyaparijñānamapyanupayogi /
tadanupayoge ca tannibandhanaṃ mīmāṃsāśātramanārambhaṇīyamiti pūrvaḥ pakṣaḥ //

rāddhāntastu svādhyāyo 'dhyetavya iti svādhyāyasya 9karmatvāvagamātsa eva bhāvyatayāvasīyate /
yadyapi nityatvānnirvarttyakarmatā nāsti svādhyāyasya, vikāryakarmatā vā, adhyayanena tasya vikārānupapatteḥ, tathāpi prāpyatayā tasya karmatā nānupapannā /
ata eva prāpyakarmodāharaṇaṃ vṛttikārasya vedādhyayanam /
yacca karma, tadarthaiva kriyā yuktā /
so 'yaṃ śrauto vinayogaḥ /
na ca svādhyāyasya saktuvaccheṣitvamanupapannam, phalavadarthāvabodhopayogitvāt /
yadyapi cārthāvabodhopayogitvamadhyayanātprāṅnāvagamyate, tathāpi paścādbhāvyapi bhavatyeva prayojanam /
bhāvināpi copayogena śeṣitvaṃ nānupapannam, agnivat /
utpannānāṃ hyagnīnāṃ viniyogāvagamaḥ, nāvagataviniyogānāmutpattiḥ /
āhavanīyādiśabdānāmalaukikārthatayā prāgvyutpattyavagamādarthānavagateḥ homādiṣu viniyogāsaṃbhavāt /
tathā coktam---
"bhūtabhāvyupayogaṃ hi dravyaṃ saṃskāramarhati /
" [tantrāvā- 2. 1. 4.] nanu cārthāvabodhopayogitayā saṃskāravidhiranarthaka evetyuktam iti /
nānarthakaḥ, niyamārthatayārthavattvāt /
nanu ca niyamo na sambhavati, apratusaṃsparśitvāditktam /
tanna sambhavati svābhāvikārthaparatvānusāreṇa kratvanupraveśe kratusaṃsparśitāyā evocitatvāt /
yadi khalvadhyayanavidheḥ kratvanupraveśitā nāśrīyate, tadā śabdānāṃ vṛddhavyavahāravyutpannānāṃ svābhāvikārthaparatā hīyeta /
jahatsvārthatvaṃ ca na nyāyyamiti kratuphalabhāvanānupraveśyevādhyayanasaṃskāro yuktaḥ /
tatra karmavidhiṣvevaṃ niyamavarṇanā adhyayanāvirbhāvitaireva karmavidhibhirarthamavabudhyānutiṣṭhatāṃ kratuphalabhāvanāsiddhiriti /
arthavādeṣu tvadhyayanāvirbhāvitārthavādaprarocitāḥ kriyamāṇāḥ kratavaḥ phalabhāvanāya alamiti /
mantreṣu punaradhyayanaparigṛhītaireva mantraiḥ kratuṣu padārthasmaraṇaṃ phalabhāvanāṅgamiti /
adhyayananiyamāśritaśca kālaniyamo vratādiniyamaśca /
"śrāvaṇyāṃ prauṣṭhapadyāṃ vā upākṛtya yathāvidhi /
yuktaśchandāṃsyadhīyīta māsānvipro 'rdhapañcamān //

"bhavatpūrva caredbhaikṣamupanīto dvijottamaḥ /
bhavanmadhyaṃ tu rājanyo vaiśyastu bhavaduttaram" //

evañcānanyaparatvādakṣarāṇāṃ phalavatkarmāvabodhotpattervicārasya viṣayaprayojanalābhācchāstrasyārambhaṇīyatvam, viṣayaprayojanalābhe ca vicārasyādhyayanānantaramupanipatitatvād gurukulasthiterarthavattvāttannivṛttimadhyayanānantaraprāptāṃ smarad 'vedamadhītya snāyād'iti smṛtivacanamapanyāyamūlaṃ darśayannarthāvabodhaparatayā svādhyāyasya vivakṣitārthatāṃ manyamānaḥ sūtrakāro vicārasya viṣayaṃ prayojanaṃ cāha"athāto dharmajijñāsā" pū-mī- 1.1.1 iti /

"athāto dharmajijñāsāsūtramādyamidaṃ kṛtam /
dharmākhyaṃ viṣayaṃ vaktuṃ mīmāṃsāyāḥ prayojanam" //
mīmāṃsāślokavārtikam 1. 1. 11. iti bahuropi 10tadayuktam /
na hi liṅādiyuktavākyeṣu bhāvanā bhāvyāntaramapekṣate, apūrvasya bhāvyasya svaśabdenābhihitatvāt /
liṅādayo hi bhāvyakoṭiniviṣṭapradhānabhūtāpūrvopasarjanatāpannāmeva bhāvanāmabhidadhatīti 11viṣayakaraṇīye nipuṇataramupapāditam /
ato na pūrvapakṣe bhāvyākāṅkṣāyāmārthavādikaphalasambandhaḥ /
nāpi siddhānte svādhyāyasya sādhyatayānvayaḥ /
kathaṃ tarhi viśvajidādiṣu svargādiphalakalpanam? yathā tattathā niśamyatām---
yadapūrva kāryabhūtaṃ pratīyate tad viṣayatvena sambaddhakaraṇībhūtayāgādyanuṣṭhānādhīnātmalābham /
12na ca vinā kartrā tadanuṣṭhānopapattiḥ /
nacādhikāraṃ vinā kartṛtvalābhaḥ /
naca niyojyamantareṇādhikārasiddhiḥ /
na vāviśiṣṭo niyojyo 'vakalpata iti viśeṣaṇabhāvena svargakāmanā parikalpyate /
svargakāmanā cenniyojyaviśeṣaṇaṃ tato 'gnihotrādivat svargasyāpi niyogataḥ siddhiriti /
bhavatvevam, atrāpi tarhi niyojyaviśeṣaṇatayaivārthavādikaṃ phalaṃ rātrisatravatsambadhyatām /
na /
anyato 'nuṣṭhānasiddheḥ /
kuto 'nyataḥ? ācāryakaraṇavidhiprayukteḥ /
kaḥ punarācāryakaraṇavidhiḥ?"upanīya tu yaḥ śiṣyaṃ vedamadhyāpayet dvijaḥ /
sakalpaṃ sarahasya ca tamācāryaṃ pracakṣate" //
[manuḥ 2. 140] iti smaraṇānumitaḥ śiṣyamupanīya vedādhyāpanenācāryakaṃ bhāveyadityevaṃrūpaḥ alaukikañcāhavanīyādivadācāryakamiti tanniṣpattyupāyavidhānaṃ yuktameva /
tatrārthādācāryībubhūṣata evādhikāro dhanārjananiyamavat /
tatra śiṣyaṃ prati vihitataddhitācaraṇadakṣiṇādānadarśanāttallipsorevācāryabhavanecchā /
yathā dīkṣaṇīyayā dīkṣitatvasiddhiḥ, tathā vedādhyāpanenācāryatvasiddhiḥ /
upanayanaṃ ca ktvāpratyayenādhyāpanasamānakartṛkamavagamyamānamekaprayogatayā vinā samānakartṛkatvāsambhavādaṅgāṅgibhāvena ca vinā ekaprayogatvānupapatterācāryakabhāvanākaraṇībhūtamadhyāpanaṃ pratyaṅgatvenāvatiṣṭhate /
tadāśrita 'ścāṣṭavarṣabrāhmaṇamupanayīte'tyādiniyamaḥ /
upanayanaṃ na svabhāvata upaneyāsattiprayojanakamiti taddvāreṇaiva tasyāṅgam /
na cādhyāpanaṃ pratyanupayogina upaneyasyāsattiradhyāpanopayoginītyupaneyasya karmāpekṣāyāmupanayanaṃ prakramya 'svādhyāyo 'dhyetavya' ityadhyayanaṃ vidhīyamānamupaneyasya karmetyavagamyate /
adhyayanaṃ cādhyāpanopayogīti /

13tena svādhyāyamadhyeṣyamāṇasya māṇavakasyopanayanama 14dhyāpanāṅgamityadhyāpanavidhiḥ svāṅgabhūtamupanayanaṃ prayuñjānastasyānyatrānupapattyādhyayanamapi prayuṅkte /
tatprayuktādhyayananiṣpattyā ca labdhasiddhissvādhyāyādhyayananiyogo nādhikārāntaramapekṣate /
ato nāyaṃ viśvajinnyāyasya viṣayaḥ, nāpi rātrisatranyāyasya, ananyaprayuktaviṣayaniyogagocaratvāttayoḥ /
ata eva prayājādiniyogeṣu tayoranavatāraḥ /
anyathā siddhāntepi kāmaśrutiprayuktamadhyayanamiti vidyāsādhyeṣvapi karmasu śūdrādīnāmadhikāraḥ syāt /
ato 'dhyāpanavidhiprayuktatvādadhyayanasya yeṣāmevopanayanaṃ teṣāmeva tatprayuktamantralābhācchūdrādīnāmanadhikāraḥ /
evañca vidhyantaraprayukte 'dhyayane na rātrisatranyāyena pūrvapakṣāśaṅkocitā /
na cātatprayuktyā pūrvaḥ pakṣaḥ, tatprayuktyā ca rāddhānta iti yuktam /
atatprayuktatve kāraṇābhāvāt /
yaccoktaṃ niyamārtho vidhiriti /

svādhyāyādhyayanasya niyoganiṣpattyarthatayā vidhānena vacanasyārthavattvāt /
svādhyāyo 'dhyetavya iti tavyapratyayena vidhirabhidhīyate /
na cāvahantyādiṣviva kratuviṣayaniyogānuvādo 'yamavakalpate, asaṃnidhānāt kratuniyogānām /
sannidhānavaśenaiva hi kratuniyogapratyabhijñānāttatra kratuniyogānuvādopagamaḥ /
na ceha sannidhānamasti /
nāpi 'parṇamayī jujūrbhavatīti'vat padārthasambandhamukhena kratuniyogapratyabhijñānam, svādhyāyasya vyabhicaritakratusambandhatvāt, humityevamādīnāmanarthakānāṃ svādhyāyāntargatidarśanāt /
yata evātra niyogaḥ sādhyatayāvagamyate, ata eva svādhyāyasya nepsitakarmatayā sambandho 'vakalpate, ekasmin vākye sādhyadvayavirodhāt /
na ca svargādivat svādhyāyasya niyojyaviśeṣaṇatayānvayādavirodhaḥ, aniyogaphalatvātsvādhyāyagrahaṇasya /
yadeva hi naiyogikaṃ phalam, tadeva sādhyatayā niyojyaviśeṣaṇaṃ nānyaditi tṛtīye darśitam---

nāpi karaṇabhūtasyaikatvamucyate, saṃkhyānvitasya vā karaṇatvam, karaṇatvaikatvayoryugapadabhidhānāt /
ato na vainiyogikaṃ śeṣatvaṃ vibhaktyabhihitāyāḥ saṃkhyāyāḥ /
iṣyate ca śeṣatvam, tacca prayuktikṛtameva /

na tatrāpi śeṣatvamaupādānikaṃ kintu laiṅgikameva /
vastusāmarthyameva liṅgamucyate /
saṃkhyā ca svabhāvata eva saṃkhyeyāvacchediketi saṃkhyeyārthaiva, kintu saṃkhyeyabhūtaprātipadikārthamātrasambandhe grāhakānvayavyāghātāpattergrāhakīyabhūtapaśvādisambandha aupādānikaḥ /
sannidhisamāmnānamātreṇa hi vibhaktyarthasyāpi grāhakaṃ pratyaidamarthyenānvitasyaivābhidhānam, tadanyathānupapattyā ca kevalābhidhānanibandhanaṃ svarūpasambandhamatilaṅghya sādhanībhūtasaṃkhyeyasambandhādhyavasānamiti naupādānikaṃ tatrāpi śeṣatvam /
bhavatu tarhi liṅgādevādhyayanasyāpi adhyāpane viniyogaḥ /
naivaṃ bhavitumarhati, sāmānyasambandhabodhakapramāṇasāpekṣatvālliṅgaviniyogasya /
na cāsya sāmānyasambandhabodhakaṃ kiñcidasti pramāṇam /

kathaṃ punaranaṅgatayā pūrvapakṣayituṃ śakyate /

sarvo hi vidhiradhikāraparyavasāyī /
nacādhyayanavidhau kasyacidadhikāro 'stītyuktameva sākṣādaśravaṇāt, adhyāpanavidhiprayojyatayā kalpanānupapatteḥ /
tatra ya evāsau prayojakavidhāvadhikāraḥ sa eva prayojanamiti yuktam, prathamopanipātitvāt /
yadapi ca yasyānaṅgaṃ tadapi tasya prayojanaṃ bhavatyeva ādhānasyeva homādaya iti /
nanu cānantarabhāvikarmāvabodhaphalakatayā adhyayanasyādhyeturevādhikāro 'dhyayane pratīyate iti tatprayojanataiva svādhyāyavidheryuktā antaraṅgatvāt /

tulyāyāṃ hi prāptāvantaraṅgatā balīyasī /
na cānayoradhikārayostulyā prāptiḥ /
prathamopanipātitvātprayokavidhyādhikārasya uttarakālabhāvitvāccārthāvabodhanibandhanasyādhikārasya /
yadā cādhyāpanavidhyadhikārasiddhiradhyayanasya prayojanamityadhyayanavidhinā bodhitaṃ tadādhyayananiṣpattyarthatvātsvādhyāyasyānyaparatvādavivakṣitārthatvam /
avivakṣitaścārtho na vicāraṇīya iti vedādhyayanamātreṇaiva gurukulasthiteḥ kṛtārthatvādadhyayanottarakālaṃ gurukulanivṛttireva yukteti matvā smṛtaṃ "vedamadhītya snāyād" /
[bau. gṛ. sū. 6. 1] iti atra ca na snānamadṛṣṭārthaṃ vidhīyate,kintu yo"brahmacārī na snāyāt" bau. gṛ. sū. iti asnānaniyamastasya paryavasānametadadhyayanāṅgatayā niyamānāṃ tannivṛttau prāptamucyate /
asnānaniyamatulyatayā ca gurukulavāsādīnāmapi nivṛttiḥ prāptaiveti sakalabrahmacāridharmanivṛttirevādhyayanānantaramucyate /
evaṃ cādhyayanavidhinā vicārasyānākṣiptatvāttudupāyabhūtanyāyanibandhanaṃ mīmāṃsāśāstraṃ nārambhaṇīyamiti pūrvaḥ pakṣaḥ /
svamatena siddhāntaḥ /
rāddhāntastu--yadyapi prayojakavidhyadhikāraḥ prathamabhāvī, tathāpi tanniṣpattiḥ prayojanamiti na yuktam /
kintu dṛṣṭārthāvabodhaphalakatayādhyayanottarakālabhāvyapyadhyeturevādhikāraḥ prayojanatayā yukta āśrayitum, kartṛsamavāyitvāt /
yatkartṛkaṃ hi yatkarma tasyaiva tatraiśvaryamiti yuktam, antaraṅgatvāt /
na ca sahasaiva vidhidarśanādatrādhikāraparyavasānakalpanākāraṇamasti, paraprayuktyaivānuṣṭhānasya siddhatvāt /
yatra khalvadhikāraparyavasānakalpanāmantareṇa prāganuṣṭhānaṃ na labhyate, tatrānuṣṭhānātprāganavagato 'dhikāraḥ tadanupraveśātsādhyaḥ /
iha tvadhyāpanavidhiprayuktyaivādhikāraparyavasānakalpanāmantareṇānuṣṭhānaṃ labdhamiti prāthamyamakiñcitkaram /
antaraṅgatvādadhyeturevādhikāro yukta iti /
tadevamadhyayanavidheranyaprayuktyaivānuṣṭhānasiddherniyojyo nāsti /
adhikārī tu vidyata eva /
yadatha hi yatkarma sa tatrādhikārī /
arthāvabodhopayogena cādhyetrarthatādhyayanasyeti sa tatrādhikārī /
sa cāyamadhikāraḥ prāgadhyayanānnāvagamyate, adhyayanottarakāle cāvagamyate /
svādhyāyādhyayanaṃ tvevamabhinirvartyate--"śrāvaṇyāṃ prauṣṭhapadyā vāpyupākṛtya yathāvidhi /
yuktaśchandāṃsyadhīyīta māsānvipro 'rdhapañcamān //
" ma. 4 a.95 tataḥ21 paraṃ tu chandāsi śukleṣu niyataḥ paṭhet /
vedāṅgāni rahasyaṃ ca kṛṣṇapakṣeṣu sampaṭhet //

itthaṃ cādhyayane kriyamāṇe 'ṅgādhyayanasaṃskṛtasya vedavākyādarthāvagamo jāyate /
sa cāyamadhyetā manyate madupayogikarmāvabodhakatayā madarthamadhyayanamiti /
22yo 'yaṃ vedādhyayanasīmāṃsāśravaṇayormadhye 'dhikāraḥ, so 'yaṃ 23tānmaulikaḥ śāstrārthaḥ /
imameva tāvadadhikāramālocya pitrādayo 'rthadānādinā kāṃścidānamayya putrādīnupanāyayanti /
prabuddhāśca kecana svayamevātmānam /
anyathādhyayanāsaṃbhavāt /
anupanītasyādhyayananiṣedhāt /
"nābhivyāhārayed brahma svadhāninayanādṛte /
24sa śūdreṇa samastāvadyāvadvedānna jāyate //

evaṃ tāvadadhyāpanavidhiṃ smṛtyanumitamāśritya rāddhāntavarṇanā kṛtā /
vivaraṇasiddhāntaḥ /
25anye tu sākṣācchrutādhyāpanavidhyanusāreṇaivamāhuḥ /
yadyadhyāpanavidhyadhikāraprayojanatā svādhyāyādhyayanavidheḥ syāt, tadādhyāpanavidherapisvādhyāyāntargatatvādavivakṣitārthatvena tatprayuktatāpi na sambhavati /
26svaśākhā hi svādhyāyaśabdenocyate /
sākṣādadhītaścādhyāpanavidhirnūnaṃ keṣāñcicchākhināṃ svaśākhāntargato bhavediti svādhyāyasyāvivakṣitārthatvena tasyāpyavivakṣitārthatvānna prayojakatvamavakalpate iti paścādbhāvyarthāvabodhopayogitayādhyeturevādhikāro 'dhyayanavidheḥ prayojanamiti /
nanu svādhyāyo 'dhyetavya iti niyogasiddheravagamāttanniṣpattyarthatvādadhyayanasyānyaparatvādarthavivakṣā durbhaṇaiva /
maivam /
yadi kevalaṃ niyoganiṣpattyarthataivādhyayanasya syātsyādetadevam /
yadā tvarthāvabodho 'pi prayojanatayā svīkriyate, tadārtha'paratāpyastīti nāvivakṣitārthatā /
kathaṃ punarekasminvākye prayojanadvayam /
ucyate /
niyoganiṣpattireva śābdaṃ prayojanam, ārthaṃ tvarthāvabodhanamiti na virodhaḥ /
yacca tadarthāvabodhākhyaṃ prayojanaṃ tanna kevalādhyayanasādhyamiti adhyayanavidhireva svaprayojanasiddhaye vicāramākṣipati /
vicārasya ca 27nyāyanibandhanatvānnyāyānāṃ mīmāṃsājñānagamyatvānmīmāṃsājñānasya gurvāyattatvānna vedādhyayanānantaraṃ gurukulānnivartitavyamiti manyamāno bhagavānsūtrakāraḥ pūrvapakṣanayamūlatāṃ smṛterdarśayituṃ dharmajijñāsopadeśamukhenādhyayanānantarabhāvinīṃ gurukulanivṛttiṃ pratiṣedhannidamāha---
"athāto dharmajijñāsā" 28iti /
vedavākyārthavicāravirodhinī ca gurukulanivṛttireva kevalā nivāryate, na sakaletarabhikṣācaraṇabrahmacaryādidharmanivṛttiḥ /
asamāptasakalabrahmacāriniyamaśca na snātaka iti na dārādhigamena'dhikriyate snātakasya dārādhigamasmaraṇāt,"snātakaḥ29 sadṛśīṃ bhāryāṃ vinded" gau. dha. sū. a. 4-1 iti /
tasmād gurukule sthitvā sakaletarabrahmacāridharmānparityajya vedārtho vicārayitavyaḥ, avicāritasyānirṇīyamānatvāt /
anirṇītavedārthaśced gurukulānnivarteta, tataḥ kṛtadārasaṃgrahaḥ śrautāgnihotrādinityanaimittikadharmādhikārāpātāttadanuṣṭhānaṃ kartumasamarthaḥ pratyaveyāt /
tasmādadhyayanasyānantarameva vedārtho vicārayitavya iti vicāropāyabhūtanyāyanibandhanaṃ mīmāṃsāśāstramārabdhavyamiti siddham /
śāstramukhaṃ nāma gurorāviṣkartuṃ gabhīramapi bhāvam /
śālikanāthena kṛtaṃ prakaraṇametatprasannataram // 2 //
iti mahāmahopādhyāya śrīśālikanāthamiśrapraṇītāyāṃ
prakaraṇapañcikāyāṃ śāstramukhaṃ nāma prathamaṃ
prakaraṇaṃ samāptam //
