yady evaṃ, pratyuktaḥ sa mahāyānikaḥ pakṣaḥ / atha kim ākṛtisadbhāvavādy upālabhyate śiddhāntāntaraṃ te duṣyati ; vane 'pi te 'sati vanapratyayaḥ prapnoti" iti / evam api prakṛtaṃ dūṣayitum aśaknuvatas te siddhāntāntaradūṣaṇaṃ nigrahasthānam āpadyate, asādhakatvāt / sa hi vakṣyati "duṣyatu, yadi duṣyati ; kiṃ tena duṣṭena aduṣṭena vā prakṛtaṃ tvayā sādhitaṃ bhavati madīyo vā pakṣo dūṣito bhavati ?" iti / na ca vṛkṣavyatiriktaṃ vanaṃ yasmān nopalabhyate, tato "vanaṃ nāsti" ity avagamyate / yadi vane 'nyena hetunā sadbhāvaviparītaḥ pratyaya utpadyate, mithyaiṣa vanapratyaya ity ato "vanaṃ nāsti" ity avagacchāmaḥ / na ca gavādiṣu pratyayo viparyeti / ato vaiṣamyam / atha vanādiṣu naiva pratyayaviparyāsaḥ, na "te na santi" iti / tasmād asaṃbaddhaḥ paṅktivanopanyāsaḥ / ata upapannaṃ jaiminivacanam "ākṛtiḥ padārtha" iti / yathā ca ākṛtiḥ śabdārthas, tathopariṣṭān nipuṇataram upapādayiṣyāma iti / atha saṃbandhaḥ ka iti? na hi sukhādipratyākhyānena tasya svarūpam upalabhāmahe / tasmāc chaśaviśāṇavad asau nāsti / - athocyate: tena vinā kasya sukhādaya iti ? - na kasyacid api iti vakyāmaḥ / na hi yo ya upalabhyate, tasya tasya saṃbandhinā bhavitavyam / yasya saṃbandho 'py upalabhyate saṃbandhī ca, tasya ayaṃ saṃbandhīti gamyate / na hi candramasam ādityaṃ vā upalabhya saṃbandhyantarānveoaṇā bhavati "kasyāyam" iti / na kasyacid api ity avadhāryate / tasmān na sukhādibhyo 'nyas tadvān astīti / athopalabdhasya avaśyaṃ kalpayitavyaḥ saṃbandhī bhavet / - tata ātmānam apy anena prakāreṇa upalabhya "kasyāyam" iti saṃbandhyantaram anviṣyema / tam api kalpayitvā 'nyam api kalpayitvā 'nyam ity anavasthaiva syāt / atha kaṃcit kalpayitvā na saṃbandhyantaram api kalpayiṣyasi tāvaty eva viraṃsyasi tāvatā ca paritokṣyasi, tato vijñāna eva parituṣya tāvaty eva virantum arhasi / atrocyate: yadi vijñānād anyo vijñātā nāsti, kas tarhi "jānāti" ity ucyate ? jñānasya kartur abhidhānam anena śabdenopapadyate / tad eṣa śabdo 'rthavān kartavya iti jñānād vyatiriktam ātmānaṃ kalpayiṣyāma iti / āha : devā enaṃ śabdam arthavantaṃ kalpayiṣyanti, yadi kalpayitavyaṃ maṃsyante / bahavaḥ khalv iha janā "asty ātmā, asty ātmā" ity ātmasattāvādina eva śabdasya pratyakṣavaktāro bhavanti, tathāpi nātmasattāṃ kalpayituṃ ghaṭante, kim aṅga punar "jānāti" iti parokṣaśabdadarśanāt / tasmād asad etat / ucyate: icchayā ātmānam upalabhāmahe / - katham ? - upalabdhapūrve hy abhiprete bhavati icchā, nānupalabdhapūrve / yathā merum uttareṇa yāny asmajjātīyair anupalabdhapūrvāṇi svādūni vṛkṣaphalāni, na tānipraty asmākam icchā bhavati / no khalv anyena puruṣeṇa upalabdhe 'pi viṣaye 'nyasyānupalabdhur icchā bhavati / bhavati cānyedyur upalabdhe 'paredyur icchā / atas tenopalambhanena samānakartṛkā sā ityavagacchāmaḥ / yadi vijñānamātram evedam upalambhakam abhaviṣyat, pradhvaste tasmin kasyāparedyur icchā 'bhaviṣyat / atha vijñānād anyo vijñātā nityas, tata ekasmin ahani ya upalabdhā, aparedyur api sa evaiṣiṣyati / itarathā icchānupapannā syāt / atrāha : anupapannam iti naḥ kva saṃpratyayaḥ ? yan na pramāṇena avagatam / vijñānāt tāvad anyan nopalabhāmahe / yac ca nopalabhāmahe, tac chaśaviṣāṇavad eva nāsti ity avagacchāmaḥ / na ca tasmin asati vijñānasadbhāvo 'nupapannaḥ, pratyakṣāvagatatvād eva / kṣaṇikatvaṃ cāsya pratyakṣapūrvakam eva / na ca jñātari vijñānād anyasmin asati jñāne cānitye aparedyur icchā anupapannā, pratyakṣāvagatatvād eva / no khalv apy etad dṛṣṭaṃ "ya evānyedyur upalabhā, sa evāparedyur eṣitā" iti / idaṃ tu dṛṣṭaṃ yat "kvacid anyena dṛṣṭam anya icchati, kvacin na ; samānāyāṃ santatāv anya icchati, santatyantare necchati" iti / tasmān na sukhādivyatirikto 'nyo 'stīti / atrocyate: na hy "asmartāra icchanti" ity upapadyate / na cādṛṣṭapūrve smṛtir bhavati / tasmāt kṣaṇike vijñānaskandhamātre smṛtir anupapanneti / atrāha : smṛtir api icchāvat / pūrvavijñānasadṛśaṃ vijñānaṃ pūrvavijñānaviṣayaṃ vā smṛtir ity ucyate / tac ca draṣṭari vinaṣṭe 'py aparedyur utpadyamānaṃ nānupapannam, pratyakṣāvagatatvād eva / anyasmin skandhaghane 'nyena skandhaghanena yaj jñānaṃ, tat tatsantatijena anyenopalabhyate nātatsantatijena / tasmāc chūnyāḥ skandhaghanā iti / athāsmin arthe brāhmaṇam bhavati: "vijñānaghana evaitebhyo bhūtebhyaḥ samutthāya tāny eva anuvinaśyati: na pretya saṃjñāsti" iti / atrocyate: naitad evam / anyedyur dṛṣṭe 'paredyur "aham idam adarśam" iti bhavati pratyayaḥ / pratyagātmani caitad bhavati, na paratra / paro hy asau yo 'nyedyur dṛṣṭavān / tasmāt tadvyatirikto 'nyo 'sti, yatrāyam ahaṃśabdaḥ / āha : paratrāpy ahaṃśabdo bhaktyā dṛśyate, tad yathā "aham eva putro, 'ham eva devadatto, 'ham eva gacchāmi" iti / atrocyate: na vayam "aham" itīmaṃ śabdaṃ prayujyamānam anyasmin arthe hetutvena vyapadiśāmaḥ, kiṃ tarhi śabdād vyatiriktaṃ pratyabhijñāpratyayam / pratīmo hi vayam imam arthaṃ "vayam evānyedyur upalabhāmahe, vayam evādya smarāma" iti / tasmād vayam imam artham avagacchāmo "vayam eva hyo, vayam evādya" itil / ye cāmī hyo 'dya ca, na te vinaṣṭāḥ / athāpy asmin arthe brāhmaṇaṃ bhavati / śa vāre 'yam ātmā" iti prakṛtya āmananti "aśīryo na hi śīryata" iti / tathā "avināśī vāre 'yam ātmā anucchittidharmā" iti / vinaśvaraṃ ca vijñānam / tasmād vinaśvarād anyaḥ sa ity avagacchāmaḥ / na ca śakyam evam avagantuṃ "yathopalabhyante 'rthā na tathā bhavanti, yathā tu khalu nopalabhyante tathā bhavanti" iti / tathā hi sati "śaśo nāsti, śaśasya viṣāṇam asti" ity avagamyeta / na ca ahampratyayo vyāmoha iti śakyate vaktum, bādhakapratyayābhāvāt / tasmāt sukhādibhyo vyatirikto 'sti / evaṃ cet, sa eva yajñāyudhī iti vyapadiśyate / āha : yadi vijñānād anyad asti vijñātṛ, vijñānam apāsya tan nidarśyatām "idaṃ tad īdṛśaṃ ca" iti / na ca tan nidarśyate / tasmān na tato 'nyad asti iti / atrocyate: svasaṃvedyaḥ sa bhavati / nāsāv anyena śakyate draṣṭum / katham asau nidarśyeteti ? yathā ca kaścic cakṣuṣmān svayaṃ rūpaṃ paśyati na ca śaknoty anyasmai jātyandhāya tan nidarśayituṃ, na ca "tan na śakyate nidarśayitum" ity etāvatā ṅāsti" ity avagamyate, evam asau puruṣaḥ svayam ātmānam upalabhate na cānyasmai śaknoti darśayitum, anyasya draṣṭus taṃ puruṣaṃ prati darśanaśaktyabhāvāt / so 'py anyaḥ puruṣaḥ svayam ātmānam upalabhate, na parātmānam / tena sarve svena svenātmanā ātmānam upalabhamānāḥ santy eva, yady api parapuruṣair nopalabhyanta iti / athāsmin arthe brāhmaṇaṃ bhavati "śāntāyāṃ vāci kiṃjyotir evāyaṃ puruṣaḥ ? ātmajyotiḥ, samrāḍ iti hovāca" iti / pareṇa nopalabhyata ity atrāpi brāhmaṇaṃ bhavati "agṛhyo na hi gṛhyata" iti / pareṇa na gṛhyata ity etadabhiprāyam etat / - kutaḥ?svayaṃjyotiṣṭvavacanāt / atrāpi brāhmaṇaṃ bhavati "atrāyaṃ puruṣaḥ svayaṃjyotir bhavati" iti / kena punar upāyena ayam anyasmai kathyata iti ? - atrāpy upāye brāhmaṇaṃ bhavati śa eṣa neti nety ātmneti hovāca" iti / asāv "ayam evaṃrūpa" iti na śakyate nidarśayitum / yac ca paraḥ paśyati, tatpratiṣedhas tasyopadeśopāyaḥ / śārīraṃ paraḥ paśyati / tenātmā upadiśyate / "śarīraṃ nātmā; asti śarīrād anyaḥ sa cātmā" iti śarīrapratiṣedhena ātmopadiśyate / tathā prāṇādayo nātmāna iti tatpratiṣedhena tebhyo 'nya upadiśyate / tathā parasthāḥ sukhādayaḥ pareṇa liṅgair upalabhyante / te 'pi nātmāna iti tatpratiledhena tebhyo 'nya upadiśyate / yaḥ svayaṃ paśyati, na tato 'nyaḥ puruṣa ity etad api puruṣapravṛttyā anumīyate, yadā ' sau puruṣaḥ pūrvedyuḥ sāmikṛtānām arthānāṃ pratisamādhāne śeṣānuṣṭhāne ca yatate / ataḥ pravṛttyāvagamyate ṅūnam asāv anityān nityam avagacchati" iti / upamānāc copadiśyate "yādṛśaṃ bhavān svayam ātmānaṃ paśyati, anenopamānenāvagaccha "aham api tādṛśam eva paśyāmi" iti, yathā kaścid ātmīyāṃ vedanāṃ parasmā ācakṣśīta "dahyamānasyeva me bhavati, yātyamānasyeva me bhavati, rudhyamānasyeva me bhavati" iti / ataḥ svayam avagamyamānatvād asti tadvyatiriktaḥ puruṣa iti / yad apy ucyate "vijñānam apāsya tan nidarśyatām" iti, yady upāyam eva niṣedhasi, na śakyam upāyam antareṇa upeyam upetum / ayam evābhyupāyo jñatavyānām arthānāṃ "yo yathā jñāyate, sa tathā" iti / tad yathā: "kaḥ śuklo nāma?" "yatra śuklatvam asti / " "kiṃ śuklatvaṃ nāma?" "yatra śuklaśabdapravṛttiḥ / " "kva tasya pravṛttiḥ?" "yac chuklaśabda uccarite pratīyate / " tasmān na vijñānaṃ pratyākhyāya kasyacid rūpaṃ nidarśayituṃ śakyam / na ca niyogataḥ pratyaye pratīte pratyayārthaḥ pratīto bhavati / apratīte 'pi hi pratyaye saty arthaḥ pratīyata eva / na hi vijñānaṃ pratyakṣaṃ, vijñeyo 'rthaḥ pratyaka ity etat pūrvam evoktam / tad avaśyakartavye 'pahnave kāmaṃ vijñānam apahnūyeta nārtha ity etad apy uktam eva / tasmād asti sukhādibhyo 'nyo nityaḥ puruṣa iti / atha yad uktaṃ "vijñānaghana evaitebhyo bhūtebhyaḥ samutthāya tāny evānuvinaśyati, na pretya saṃjñāsti" iti, atrocyate: "atraiva mā bhagavān mohāntam āpīpadad" iti 1 paricodanottarakāle 'pahnutya mohāntābhiprāyam asya vacanasya varṇitavān ṅa vāre 'haṃ mohaṃ bravīmi, avināśī vāre 'yam ātmā anucchittidharmā, mātrāsaṃsargas tv asya bhavati" iti / tasmān na vijñānamātram / tasmād vai1amyam / yad uktaṃ ṅa caiṣa "yāti" iti vidhiśabda" iti, mā bhūd vidhiśabdaḥ / śvargakāmo yajeta" iti vacanāntareṇa avagatam anuvadiṣyate / tasmād avirodhaḥ /
