pīyūṣābhiniveśa eṣa rabhasād asmākam adyānayā bandhūkadyutibāndhavādhararasasyandena mandīkṛtaḥ itthaṃ daityacayaḥ samudramathane yena kṣaṇād vañcitas tasmai sādaram oṃnamo 'stu kapaṭastrīrūpiṇe viṣṇave // pīyūṣa-abhiniveśa eṣa rabhasād asmākam adya anayā bandhūka-dyuti-bāndhava-adhara-rasa-syandena mandīkṛtaḥ itthaṃ daitya-cayaḥ samudra-mathane yena kṣaṇād vañcitas tasmai sādaram oṃ-namo prathamāya garbhagaṇikārāgāya tubhyaṃ namaḥ // hāridra-drava-sodarāya rasanā-maṃḍo(mātro)paristhāyine satyād anyatamāya vitta-haraṇa-pratyakṣa-caurāya ca citraṃ durbhaga-rūpa-varṇana-mahā-pāṇḍitya-vidyāya te vyājānāṃ prathamāya garbha-gaṇikā-rāgāya tubhyaṃ namaḥ // dhyānaṃ yat parameśvaraṃ prati sadā yad vītarāgaṃ mano yat karmātikaṭhoraghoragahanaṃ bhūtyai yad atyādaraḥ āścaryaṃ ca śarīradānam api yat kāryaṃ vikāraṃ vinā tad veśyaiva tapasvinī kaliyuge loko 'pi tadbhāvitaḥ // dhyānaṃ yat parameśvaraṃ prati sadā yad vīta-rāgaṃ mano yat karma-atikaṭhora-ghora-gahanaṃ bhūtyai yad atyādaraḥ āścaryaṃ ca śarīra-dānam api yat kāryaṃ vikāraṃ vinā tad veśya aiva tapasvinī kali-yuge loko 'pi tad-bhāvitaḥ // śrīmantaṃ śirasā bibharti kurute viśvabhramaṃ helayā dhatte pāṭakapakṣapātam aniśaṃ naivāmiśais tṛpyati raktaṃ pātum apīhate ca sakalaṃ tārkṣyasya mūrtir yathā veśyā kiṃ tu bhujaṅgabhakṣaṇavidhau nādyāpi viśrāmyati // śrīmantaṃ śirasā bibharti kurute viśva-bhramaṃ helayā dhatte pāṭaka-pakṣa-pātam aniśaṃ na evā amiśais tṛpyati raktaṃ pātum apī ihate ca sakalaṃ tārkṣyasya mūrtir yathā veśyā kiṃ tu bhujaṅga-bhakṣaṇa-vidhau na adya api viśrāmyati // te gandharvapure vasantu vibhavaṃ svapnārjitaṃ bhuñjatāṃ kurvantu kṣaṇam antarikṣakusumaiḥ sragdāmaśobhām api veśyānāṃ śaśaśṛṅgabhaṅgisadṛśaṃ vāllabhyam āsādya ye sarvasvakṣapaṇāya kevalam aho mūrkhāḥ sukhenāsate // te gandharva-pure vasantu vibhavaṃ svapna-arjitaṃ bhuñjatāṃ kurvantu kṣaṇam antarikṣakusumaiḥ srag-dāma-śobhām api veśyānāṃ śaśa-śṛṅga-bhaṅgi-sadṛśaṃ vāllabhyam āsādya ye sarvasva-kṣapaṇāya kevalam aho mūrkhāḥ sukhena-āsate // śvaityaṃ kalpaya kajjale kapikuleṣv āropayācāpalaṃ kodaṇḍe janayārjavaṃ viracaya grāvṇāṃ gaṇe mārdavam nimbe sādhaya mādhurīṃ surabhitām ādau rasone kuru premāṇaṃ gaṇikājane 'pi caturaḥ paścāt sakhe drakṣyasi // śvaityaṃ kalpaya kajjale kapi-kuleṣv āropaya acāpalaṃ kodaṇḍe janaya arjavaṃ viracaya grāvṇāṃ gaṇe mārdavam nimbe sādhaya mādhurīṃ surabhitām ādau rasa-ūne kuru premāṇaṃ gaṇikā-jane 'pi caturaḥ paścāt sakhe drakṣyasi // kālaś cet karuṇāparaḥ kaliyugaṃ yady adya dharmapriyaṃ nistriṃśo yadi peśalo viṣadharaḥ saṃtoṣadāyī yadi agniś ced atiśītalaḥ khalajanaḥ sarvopakārī sa ced āyuṣyaṃ yadi vā bhaviṣyati viṣaṃ veśyāpi tadrāgiṇī // kālaś cet karuṇā-paraḥ kali-yugaṃ yady adya dharma-priyaṃ nistriṃśo yadi peśalo viṣadharaḥ saṃtoṣadāyī yadi agniś ced atiśītalaḥ khala-janaḥ sarva-upakārī sa ced āyuṣyaṃ yadi vā bhaviṣyati viṣaṃ veśyāpi tad-rāgiṇī // mūḍho nirvyasano vaṇig vikapaṭo rājādhikārī śuciḥ svādhīno bhṛtako jaḍo guṇarataś cauro vyapetaspṛhaḥ bhītaḥ śāntamatir vitaḥ savinayaḥ karṇejapo dhārmikaḥ kiṃ kutrāpi kadāpi ko 'pi bhavitā veśyājano rāgavān // mūḍho nirvyasano vaṇig vikapaṭo rāja-adhikārī śuciḥ svādhīno bhṛtako jaḍo guṇa-rataś cauro vyapeta-spṛhaḥ bhītaḥ śānta-matir vitaḥ sa-vinayaḥ karṇejapo dhārmikaḥ kiṃ kutra api kada āpi ko 'pi bhavitā veśyā-jano rāgavān // 8c: for bhītaḥ var. nītaḥ kāmo nāsti napuṃsakasya kulaṭāvargasya nāsti trapā toyaṃ nāsti marīcikāsu satataṃ nāsti sthiratvaṃ śriyaḥ dharmo nāsti ca nāstikasya vibhavo nāsti pramattātmanaḥ snehānāṃ kaṇikāpi nāsti gaṇikālokasya ca prāyaśaḥ // kāmo na asti napuṃsakasya kulaṭā-vargasya na asti trapā toyaṃ na asti marīcikāsu satataṃ na asti sthiratvaṃ śriyaḥ dharmo na asti ca nāstikasya vibhavo na asti pramatta-ātmanaḥ snehānāṃ kaṇika āpi na asti gaṇikā-lokasya ca prāyaśaḥ // aśvīye yamavāhanasya nakulasyāśīviṣāṇāṃ kule mārjārasya ca mūṣakeṣu ghaṭate yā prītir ātyantikī kṣīṇe 'rthe vidhureṣu bandhuṣu dṛḍhe lokāpavāde śanair jñeyā kāmijaneṣu saiva gaṇikāvargasya naisargikī // aśvīye yama-vāhanasya nakulasyā aśīviṣāṇāṃ kule mārjārasya ca mūṣakeṣu ghaṭate yā prītir ātyantikī kṣīṇe 'rthe vidhureṣu bandhuṣu dṛḍhe loka-apavāde śanair jñeyā kāmi-janeṣu sa aiva gaṇikā-vargasya naisargikī // yad yūtena yudhiṣṭhirasya vihitaṃ yad viṣṇunā vā baler yac chukreṇa dhanādhipasya kalinā rājño nalasyāpi yat saṃbhūyāpi ca yat surāsurabalair unmathya pāthonidher veśyā paśyata līlayaiva kurute tat tad gṛhe kāminām // yad yūtena yudhiṣṭhirasya vihitaṃ yad viṣṇunā vā baler yac chukreṇa dhanādhipasya kalinā rājño nalasya api yat saṃbhūya api ca yat sura-asura-balair unmathya pāthonidher veśyā paśyata līlaya aiva kurute tat tad gṛhe kāminām // vākśurasya raṇo 'vadhiḥ kutanayotpattiḥ kulasyāvadhir bāndhavyasya vivādabhūmir avadhiḥ saukhyaṃ śrutasy avadhiḥ vācāṭasya vidagdhaparṣad avadhir laulyaṃ vratasyāvadhir bandho viddhi dhanāvasānam avadhir veśyānurāgasya ca // vāk-śurasya raṇo 'vadhiḥ kutanaya-utpattiḥ kulasya avadhir bāndhavyasya vivāda-bhūmir avadhiḥ saukhyaṃ śrutasy avadhiḥ vācāṭasya vidagdha-parṣad avadhir laulyaṃ vratasya avadhir bandho viddhi dhana-avasānam avadhir veśyā-anurāgasya ca // svāmī krūram ivāśritaṃ pariṇato yogīva saṃsāriṇaṃ śuddho vipra ivāntyajaṃ janapadaḥ śrīmān iva śvitriṇam dāsīputram ivoddhataḥ kuladharo nīco dhanīvārthinaṃ paryante tṛṇatulyam eva gaṇikā niḥsvaṃ janaṃ paśyanti // svāmī krūram ivā aśritaṃ pariṇato yogi īva saṃsāriṇaṃ śuddho vipra iva antyajaṃ jana-padaḥ śrīmān iva śvitriṇam dāsī-putram iva uddhataḥ kula-dharo nīco dhani īva arthinaṃ paryante tṛṇa-tulyam eva gaṇikā niḥsvaṃ janaṃ paśyanti // vipro dakṣiṇayā mahaiḥ parijano meghodayaiḥ kārṣiko durmantrī vyasanena sāhasaśataiḥ śūro mṛgair lubdhakaḥ bandī tyāgibhir akṣarair janayitā lābhātirekair vaṇig rogārtair bhiṣag arbhakaiś ca gaṇikā garbheśvarais tuṣyati // vipro dakṣiṇayā mahaiḥ parijano megha-udayaiḥ kārṣiko durmantrī vyasanena sāhasa-śataiḥ śūro mṛgair lubdhakaḥ bandī tyāgibhir akṣarair janayitā lābha-atirekair vaṇig roga-artair bhiṣag arbhakaiś ca gaṇikā garbha-īśvarais tuṣyati // ajñānaḥ kalahaiḥ subhāṣitapadaiḥ sabhyo 'dhamaṛṇair dhanī jīvaiḥ śākuniko durodarakaraḥ śārair yamaḥ prāṇibhiḥ grāmīṇair viṭapeṭakaḥ parijanaiḥ svāmī śiśuḥ kandukaiḥ śrīputrais taruṇais tathā navanavair vārāṅganā krīḍati // ajñānaḥ vārāṅganā krīḍati // bhṛtyaḥ kuprabhusevayā narapatiḥ svacchandatādurnayair hevākena kavir madena kulajaḥ krodhāgninā tāpasaḥ yogī bhogaviśeṣalampaṭatayā rogī kupathyāśanaī rāgī catvarakāminīparicayaiḥ kṣiprād adhaḥ kṣipyate // bhṛtyaḥ kuprabhu-sevayā narapatiḥ svacchandatā-durnayair hevākena kavir madena kulajaḥ krodha-agninā tāpasaḥ yogī bhoga-viśeṣa-lampaṭatayā rogī kupathya-aśanaī rāgī catvara-kāminī-paricayaiḥ kṣiprād adhaḥ kṣipyate // śālīnāṃ śalabhavrajo dhuṇagaṇo vaṃśapratānonnater mattebhaḥ kamalākarasya kusumodyānasya durmārutaḥ svasbhānur vidhumaṇḍalasya vaḍavāvakro nidher ambhasā māsāṃ kāmukasaṃpadāṃ ca gaṇikākṣudraḥ kīlopadravaḥ // śālīnāṃ śalabha-vrajo dhuṇa-gaṇo vaṃśa-pratāna-unnater matta-ibhaḥ kamala-ākarasya kusuma-udyānasya durmārutaḥ svas-bhānur vidhu-maṇḍalasya vaḍavā-vakro nidher ambhasā māsāṃ kāmuka-saṃpadāṃ ca gaṇikā-kṣudraḥ kīla-upadravaḥ // śauryasyātivikatthanaṃ ripunatir mānasya duḥśīlatā saundaryasya samunnates taralatā jñānasya garvagrahaḥ aiśvaryasya vikāratā mukharatā vidyāprakarṣasya ca bhrātarvibhramanarmaṇaś ca gaṇikā sarvātmanā dūṣaṇam // śauryasya ativikatthanaṃ ripu-natir mānasya duḥśīlatā saundaryasya samunnates taralatā jñānasya garva-grahaḥ aiśvaryasya vikāratā mukharatā vidyā-prakarṣasya ca bhrātar-vibhrama-narmaṇaś ca gaṇikā sarva-ātmanā dūṣaṇam // cchāyām abhradalaiḥ khalaiḥ sujanatāṃ mānonnatiṃ yācñayā kārpaṇyena yaśāṃsi dhūrtakalayā maitrīṃ sukhaṃ sevayā dharmaṃ prāṇivadhena vāñchati dhanaṃ dyūtaprasādeba yo veśyābhiś ca vilāsam ātmani narākāro 'sti gaur eva saḥ // cchāyām abhra-dalaiḥ khalaiḥ sujanatāṃ māna-unnatiṃ yācñayā kārpaṇyena yaśāṃsi dhūrta-kalayā maitrīṃ sukhaṃ sevayā dharmaṃ prāṇivadhena vāñchati dhanaṃ dyūta-prasādeba yo veśyābhiś ca vilāsam ātmani nara-ākāro 'sti gaur eva saḥ // nāndho mūrkhasamo na sevakasamo duḥkhī na yakṣmopamo vyādhir nādhir asatsutapratinidhis trāso na bhṛtyoḥ samaḥ kaṣṭaṃ nādhvasamānam indriyasamo nāriḥ parastrīsamaṃ nānāyuṣyam avaśyanindyam atha no veśyāsamaṃ dṛśyate // na andho mūrkha-samo na sevaka-samo duḥkhī na yakṣma-upamo vyādhir nādhir asat-suta-pratinidhis trāso na bhṛtyoḥ samaḥ kaṣṭaṃ na adhva-samānam indriya-samo nāriḥ para-strī-samaṃ na anāyuṣyam avaśya-nindyam atha no veśyā-samaṃ dṛśyate // kiṃ kāko 'pi vihaṃgamo marur api sthānaṃ karīro 'pi kiṃ śākhī rāhur api grahaḥ sa ca bhaved uṣṭro 'pi kiṃ vā[ha]tam kiṃ kāco 'pi maṇir mṛgo 'pi karaṭiḥ preṣyo 'pi vā mānuṣaḥ kiṃ veśyāpi vilāsinī sa ca tadāsakto 'pi kiṃ kāmukaḥ // kiṃ kāko 'pi vihaṃgamo marur api sthānaṃ karīro 'pi kiṃ śākhī rāhur api grahaḥ sa ca bhaved uṣṭro 'pi kiṃ vā[ha]tam kiṃ kāco 'pi maṇir mṛgo 'pi karaṭiḥ preṣyo 'pi vā mānuṣaḥ kiṃ veśyā āpi vilāsinī sa ca tad-āsakto 'pi kiṃ kāmukaḥ // kiṃ tat karma yad astaśarma rasanā kiṃ sā na (ca) yāruṃtudā kiṃ tat prema yad asthiraṃ sa ca pumān kiṃ nāma yo nirguṇaḥ sā kiṃ śrīr upabhogam arhati na yā sevyaḥ sa kiṃ yo 'ntaraṃ no jānāti tad asti kiṃ vilasitaṃ veśyāsu yat kṛtrimam // kiṃ tat karma yad asta-śarma rasanā kiṃ sā na (ca) yāruṃtudā kiṃ tat prema yad asthiraṃ sa ca pumān kiṃ nāma yo nirguṇaḥ sā kiṃ śrīr upabhogam arhati na yā sevyaḥ sa kiṃ yo 'ntaraṃ no jānāti tad asti kiṃ vilasitaṃ veśyāsu yat kṛtrimam // dūre tāni dhanāni yeṣu malanaṃ mānasya saṃjāyate bandhuḥ sa astu sukhī mukhe madhumayo yo 'ntaś ca māyāmayaḥ bhogāḥ pralayaṃ prayāntu katham apy aucityabhaṅgena ye yāyātur nidhanaṃ varaṃ nidhuvanaṃ veśyāsu mūlyena yat // dūre tāni dhanāni yeṣu malanaṃ mānasya saṃjāyate bandhuḥ sa astu sukhī mukhe madhumayo yo 'ntaś ca māyāmayaḥ bhogāḥ pralayaṃ prayāntu katham apy aucitya-bhaṅgena ye yāyātur nidhanaṃ varaṃ nidhuvanaṃ veśyāsu mūlyena yat // asthānābhiniveśitā ratipater aucityabhaṅgo rater vaiyarthyaṃ navayauvanasya kim api premṇaḥ kalaṅkāṅkuraḥ saubhāgyasya vimānanā viguṇatā saundaryasāraśriyaḥ śṛṅgārasya viḍambanā kim aparaṃ veśyārataḍambaraḥ // asthāna-abhiniveśitā rati-pater aucitya-bhaṅgo rater vaiyarthyaṃ nava-yauvanasya kim api premṇaḥ kalaṅka-aṅkuraḥ saubhāgyasya vimānanā viguṇatā saundarya-sāra-śriyaḥ śṛṅgārasya viḍambanā kim aparaṃ veśyā-rata-ḍambaraḥ // kruddho yasya manobhavas taruṇimā yenātmano vañcitas tais tair yaś ca kaṭākṣitaḥ paribhavaiḥ sākṣād alakṣmīmukhaiḥ yuktāyuktavicāraṇāparihṛtaḥ kāmaṃ sa kāmī krimiḥ paṇyastrīṣu nitambanāmani mahānimbe ratiṃ vindati // kruddho yasya manobhavas taruṇimā yenā atmano vañcitas tais tair yaś ca kaṭākṣitaḥ paribhavaiḥ sākṣād alakṣmī-mukhaiḥ yukta-ayukta-vicāraṇā-parihṛtaḥ kāmaṃ sa kāmī krimiḥ paṇya-strīṣu nitamba-nāmani mahā-nimbe ratiṃ vindati // śāpaḥ ko 'pi mahānayaṃ pariṇatir duṣkarmaṇām īdṛśī daurjanyaṃ paramaṃ vidher idam iyaṃ sākṣād alakṣmī sthirā sauhārdasya ca vibhramasya ca rater bhartuś ca yūnāṃ tathā yat saṃtyajya kulāṅganāṃ bahumukho dāsījanaḥ sevyate // śāpaḥ ko 'pi mahānayaṃ pariṇatir duṣkarmaṇām īdṛśī daurjanyaṃ paramaṃ vidher idam iyaṃ sākṣād alakṣmī sthirā sauhārdasya ca vibhramasya ca rater bhartuś ca yūnāṃ tathā yat saṃtyajya hālāhalaṃ veśyānāṃ viṣayeṣu kiṃ puno 'ho saktir mahāsāhasam // saṃparko 'py atikarkaśaḥ paricaya-ābhāso 'py asaṃpat-karo dṛkpāto 'py avasādasūr api sakṛt saṃbhāṣaṇaṃ dūṣaṇam chāya āpi cchalana-ātmikā parimala-udgāro 'pi hālāhalaṃ veśyānāṃ viṣayeṣu kiṃ puno 'ho saktir mahā-sāhasam // droho yasya pitā kalāḥ kila catuḥṣaṣṭis tathā mātaraḥ prāṇāḥ sarvam alīkam arthaharaṇaṃ nāma pradhānavratam vikreyaṃ nijam aṅgam aṅgam api cānaṅgaḥ sahāyaḥ svayaṃ tasyānarthaśatātmakasya gaṇikāvyādheḥ kim asty auṣadham // droho yasya pitā kalāḥ kila catuḥṣaṣṭis tathā mātaraḥ prāṇāḥ sarvam alīkam artha-haraṇaṃ nāma bhare tīkṣṇa-nakha-kṣateṣu bhujagī daṃśa-prakāreṣu ca uttāneṣu vivartaneṣu śaphari vitta-cchale mūṣikā veśyā kāmuka-vañcanāya bhuvane rūpair anekaiḥ sthitā // sāmrājyaṃ madhumāṃsamatsyagilanaṃ mantrī jaratkuṭṭanī daṇḍyaḥ sārthakirāṭasūnuradhanāḥ śṛṅgāriṇaḥ kiṅkarāḥ ācāro bahugālidānam adhamo mitraṃ dhanaṃ jīvitaṃ veśyānāṃ puracāra ... tha bhagnaḥ priyaḥ // sāmrājyaṃ madhu-māṃsa-matsya-gilanaṃ mantrī jarat-kuṭṭanī daṇḍyaḥ sārtha-kirāṭasūnuradhanāḥ śṛṅgāriṇaḥ kiṅkarāḥ ācāro bahu-gāli-dānam adhamo mitraṃ dhanaṃ jīvitaṃ veśyānāṃ puracāra ... tha bhagnaḥ priyaḥ // rāgīti pratipattibhūr vita iti prāpto 'tivandyaṃ padaṃ ślāghārho vyasanīti hīnakula ity agryaḥ kuṭumbaḥ svayam mānyaḥ prāhata ity aho kitava ity āptaś ca kiṃ vādhikaṃ sarvāvastha iti pramāṇapuruṣo veśyābhir abhyarcyate // rāgi īti pratipatti-bhūr vita iti prāpto 'tivandyaṃ padaṃ ślāgha-arho vyasani īti hīna-kula ity agryaḥ kuṭumbaḥ svayam mānyaḥ prāhata ity aho kitava ity āptaś ca kiṃ va ādhikaṃ sarva-avastha iti pramāṇa-puruṣo veśyābhir abhyarcyate // māṃspākotkaṭamadyagandhi viharacceṭīnaṭīsaṃkulaṃ yad veśyāyatanaṃ bhujaṃga parayā bhaktyā puraḥ paśyasi atrāste gṛhadevatā vidadhatī digghaṭṭanaṃ kuṭṭanī yasyāḥ pratyaham āḍhyakāmukapaśuvrātopahārair baliḥ // māṃspāka-utkaṭa-madya-gandhi viharac-ceṭī-naṭī-saṃkulaṃ yad veśyā-āyatanaṃ bhujaṃga parayā bhaktyā puraḥ paśyasi atrā aste gṛha-devatā vidadhatī dig-ghaṭṭanaṃ kuṭṭanī yasyāḥ pratyaham āḍhya-kāmuka-paśu-vrāta-upahārair baliḥ // 32a: on māṃspākā see Pāṇini 6.1.144: aparasaparāḥ kriyāsātatye pratyaṅgārpaṇacārucāṭukaraṇapremocitaprārthanā pratyaṅga-arpaṇa-cāru-cāṭu-karaṇa-prema-ucita-prārthanā śrī-vātāyana-darśana-ādi-gaṇikā-lokasya dharmaḥ paraḥ kuṭṭanyāḥ puna utkaṭa-utkaṭam idaṃ tatra asty agastya-vrataṃ yat prāṇa-āhutir ekaka aiva sakalaī ratna-ākaraiḥ kāmibhiḥ // kandarpapratibhūniveśitavalīrekhāvalīśobhite līlodañcitabāhupāśayugalāpātaiś ca bhoḥ kāmukāḥ veśyānāṃ vipule nitambaphalake śāraiḥ kaṭākṣair ito yad vaḥ krīḍitam atra dāsyati puro dāridram evottaram // kandarpa-pratibhū-niveśita-valī-rekhā-āvalī-śobhite līlā-udañcita-bāhu-pāśa-yugala-āpātaiś ca bhoḥ kāmukāḥ veśyānāṃ vipule nitamba-phalake śāraiḥ kaṭākṣair ito yad vaḥ krīḍitam atra dāsyati puro dāridram eva uttaram // śūlenādya mṛtāham adya sarajāḥ kartavyam adya vrataṃ tyāgī nāsti tato 'dhiko 'para iti ślāghā vipakṣasya ca kaṃ cin notsahate sa rājatanayo jānāti mātā mamety evaṃ mugdhabhujaṃga rūkṣagaṇikāvāco 'cirāc chroṣyasi // śūlena adya mṛta āham adya sa-rajāḥ kartavyam adya vrataṃ tyāgī na asti tato 'dhiko 'para iti ślāghā vipakṣasya ca kaṃ cin na mlāniṃ kām api tanvatī smitamukhī lagnā ca karṇāntike utkampaṃ mativibhramaṃ vidadhatī yūnāṃ śanair ninditā tāruṇyasya janāpavāda ... veśyā ca saṃdṛśyate // keśa-ākarṣaṇa-karmaṇi vyavasitā vīryaṃ harantī paraṃ mlāniṃ kām api tanvatī smita-mukhī lagnā ca karṇa-antike utkampaṃ mati-vibhramaṃ vidadhatī yūnāṃ śanair ninditā tāruṇyasya jana-apavāda ... veśyā ca saṃdṛśyate // yo 'yaṃ nirdayadantakhaṇḍanakaro buddhiprayogair haṭhān nīrandhro bhujayantrapīḍanavidhiḥ sollāsam utpāditaḥ tenekṣor iva kāmukasya sarasasyādāya sāraṃ paraṃ veśyābhiḥ kriyate bahir yadi paraṃ niṣkāsanaṃ śalkavat // yo 'yaṃ nirdaya-danta-khaṇḍana-karo buddhi-prayogair haṭhān nīrandhro bhuja-yantra-pīḍana-vidhiḥ sa-ullāsam utpāditaḥ tena ikṣor iva kāmukasya sa-rasasyā adāya sāraṃ paraṃ veśyābhiḥ kriyate bahir yadi paraṃ niṣkāsanaṃ śalkavat // 38d: śalka=śakala vāgbhir bhartsanam aṃśukādiharaṇaṃ saṃtāḍanaṃ muṣṭibhiḥ kiṃ cānyad viparītadarśnam adhaskāro 'tha pādāhatiḥ ityādi prathamaṃ yadeva surataprauḍhopacārakrame veśyā paśyata tat tad eva kurute nirvāsane kāminām // vāgbhir bhartsanam aṃśuka-ādi-haraṇaṃ saṃtāḍanaṃ muṣṭibhiḥ kiṃ ca anyad viparīta-darśnam adhas-kāro 'tha pāda-āhatiḥ ity-ādi prathamaṃ yada īva surata-prauḍha-upacāra-krame veśyā paśyata tat tad eva kurute nirvāsane kāminām // yad bhūyaḥ paricumbanaṃ yad asakṛtsarvāṅgam āliṅganaṃ yat paryutsukam īkṣitaṃ sarabhasaṃ yac cāṭukotkaṭṭanam(utkīrtanam?) yat sadbhāvakathānakaṃ rahasi yat kiṃ cid abhyarthanaṃ veśyānāṃ viṣavat tad eva nipuṇaṃ cintyaṃ sadā kāmukaiḥ // yad bhūyaḥ paricumbanaṃ yad asakṛt-sarva-aṅgam medhāvinaḥ // bibboke baka-ceṣṭitaṃ bahu-vidha-bhrū-vibhrameṣu bhramaṃ kauṭilyaṃ nakhara-kṣateṣu surata-upāyeṣu māyāṃ svayam sītkāra-antara-satyam artha-haraṇaṃ sarvatra ye jānate veśyānāṃ paramaṃ rahasyam avanau te ke 'pi medhāvinaḥ // kiṃ cit prāhuṇakāgamena kim api prastāravistāravat yātrācaitratithikramaiḥ kim api ca krodhaprasādodayaiḥ kiṃ cit kāñcanaratnavastraviṣayair nānāvidhair dohadair dvārāṇy arthavinirgamasya gaṇikāḥ kurvanti śṛṅgāriṇām // kiṃ cit prāhuṇaka-āgamena kim api prastāra-vistāra-vat yātrā-caitra-tithi-kramaiḥ kim api ca krodha-prasāda-udayaiḥ kiṃ cit kāñcana-ratna-vastra-viṣayair nānā-vidhair dohadair dvārāṇy artha-vinirgamasya gaṇikāḥ kurvanti śṛṅgāriṇām // 42a: prāhuṇaka= a guest arthuṣmā pitṛlālanaṃ viṭaghaṭāmelaḥ priyammanyatā tāruṇyaṃ nagare sthitis taralatā dhiḥ kāmaśāstraṃ prati saṅgītaṃ rajanī vidhur madhumadaḥ spardhā sapatnais tathā veśyānām anuraktavittaharaṇe kurvanti sāhāyakam // arth-uṣmā pitṛ-lālanaṃ viṭa-ghaṭā-melaḥ priyam-manyatā tāruṇyaṃ nagare sthitis taralatā dhiḥ kāma-śāstraṃ prati saṅgītaṃ rajanī vidhur madhu-madaḥ spardhā sa-patnais tathā veśyānām anurakta-vitta-haraṇe kurvanti sāhāyakam // vaidagdhīm avadhīraya vyavahitaṃ kāryaṃ kalākauśalaṃ saujanyena gataṃ kim anyad aphalo rāśir guṇānām api yasmān na praṇayena na praṇatibhiḥ premṇā na na prīṇanair na prāṇair api te bhujaṃga gaṇikā vittaṃ vinā tuṣyati // vaidagdhīm avadhīraya vyavahitaṃ kāryaṃ kalā-kauśalaṃ saujanyena gataṃ kim anyad aphalo rāśir guṇānām api yasmān na praṇayena na praṇatibhiḥ premṇā na na prīṇanair na prāṇair api te kuntalaiḥ sopekṣair iva cakṣuṣoḥ saralitāpāṅgaiś ca bhaṅgyantaraiḥ ātmīyāṃ calacittavṛttiracanāṃ veśyā varākī sadā yūnāṃ darśayatīva te yadi paraṃ mūḍhā na taj jānate // bhrū-bhaṅgair atibhaṅguraiḥ kuṭilita-prāntas tathā kuntalaiḥ sa-upekṣair iva cakṣuṣoḥ saralita-apāṅgaiś ca bhaṅgy-antaraiḥ ātmīyāṃ cala-citta-vṛtti-racanāṃ veśyā varākī sadā yūnāṃ darśayati iva te yadi paraṃ mūḍhā na taj jānate // vakroktyā prathamaṃ nirādaratayā paścāt tataḥ kena cid dātavyaṃ bahu tatra yāmi bhavatām(tād) bhūyo 'pi nau saṃgamaḥ ity ukto 'pi na budhyate khalu yadā rāgī daridro jaḍaś ceṭībhir bahubhāṣitair api tadā hastārgalair vāryate // vakra-uktyā prathamaṃ nirādaratayā paścāt tataḥ kena cid dātavyaṃ bahu tatra yāmi bhavatām(tād) bhūyo 'pi nau saṃgamaḥ ity ukto 'pi na budhyate khalu yadā rāgī daridro jaḍaś ceṭībhir bahu-bhāṣitair api tadā hasta-argalair vāryate // bhūyaḥ kālavaśāt tam arjitadhanaṃ dṛṣṭvātha madvallabhaḥ saḥ kruddho gamitas tvayeti kalaho mātrā samaṃ jāyate kṛtvā taṃ prati ca vratādi virahaṃ svaṃ nāṭayitvā tatas tasmin mitramukhena saṃdhir aparo veśyābhir utpādyate // bhūyaḥ kāla-vaśāt tam arjita-dhanaṃ dṛṣṭva ātha mad-vallabhaḥ saḥ kruddho gamitas tvaya īti kalaho mātrā samaṃ jāyate kṛtvā taṃ prati ca vrata-ādi virahaṃ svaṃ nāṭayitvā tatas tasmin mitra-mukhena saṃdhir aparo veśyābhir utpādyate // prauḍha prāṇada kānta nātha subhagodāra priya tvāṃ vinā kiṃ vittena gṛheṇa kiṃ kim asubhir hyo 'pīti yo bhāṣitaḥ tasyaivādya nirāśa durbhaga paśo nirlajja gacchādhunā dhik tvāṃ nirdhanacaṅgam ity apavadan hrīto na veśyājanaḥ // prauḍha prāṇa-da kānta nātha subhaga udāra priya tvāṃ vinā kiṃ vittena gṛheṇa kiṃ kim asubhir hyo 'pi iti yo bhāṣitaḥ tasya eva adya nirāśa durbhaga paśo nirlajja gaccha adhunā dhik tvāṃ nirdhana-caṅgam ity apavadan hrīto na veśyā-janaḥ // ke cid dyūtakarā bhavanti katicid bhikṣācarāḥ kiṅkarāḥ ke cit karmakarāḥ pare dhanavatāṃ ślāghākarāḥ ke cana skandhāsaktapaṭaccarā dya(a)nucarā śokād akiṃcitkarās te 'mī kāmivarāḥ purā samabhavan veśyāsu ye gocarāḥ // ke cid dyūta-karā bhavanti kati-cid bhikṣā-carāḥ kiṅkarāḥ ke cit karma-karāḥ pare dhanavatāṃ ślāghā-karāḥ ke cana skandha-āsakta-paṭac-carā dya(a)nucarā śokād a-kiṃ-cit-karās te 'mī kāmi-varāḥ purā samabhavan veśyāsu ye gocarāḥ // veśyābhir vivaśīkṛtaḥ kupuruṣaḥ saṃjāyate durgato daurgatyena durodare nipatitaḥ svaṃ hārayaty eva sa ruddho dyūtakaraiḥ karoti vidhuraś cauryaṃ tatas taskaro vadhyaḥ syān nṛpater aho nu viṣayāsakter durantā gatiḥ // veśyābhir vivaśī-kṛtaḥ kupuruṣaḥ saṃjāyate durgato daurgatyena durodare nipatitaḥ svaṃ hārayaty eva sa ruddho dyūta-karaiḥ karoti vidhuraś cauryaṃ tatas taskaro vadhyaḥ syān nṛpater aho nu viṣaya-āsakter durantā gatiḥ // ājīvaḥ kapaṭānurāgakalayā doṣo na duḥśīlatā vaidhavyaṃ na ca bādhate sadasatoḥ saṃbḥāvanā vyatyayāt yatkimcitkaraṇe parasvaharaṇe vrīḍā na pīḍākarī no vā rājabhayaṃ ca hī bata sukhaṃ jīvanti vārastriyas= // ājīvaḥ kapaṭa-anurāga-kalayā doṣo na duḥśīlatā vaidhavyaṃ na ca bādhate sad-asatoḥ saṃbḥāvanā vyatyayāt yat-kim-cit-karaṇe para-sva-haraṇe vrīḍā na pīḍā-karī na u vā rāja-bhayaṃ ca hī bata sukhaṃ jīvanti vāra-striyas= // strīti prītikaraṃ puraḥ pariṇatau hālāhalaṃ kevalaṃ sarvasya vyasanaṃ kilaitad adhikaṃ tatrāpi veśyeti ca prādhānyena tatas tad eva kathitaṃ yat tatprasaṅgena ca vyākhyātaṃ guṇadoṣajātam ucitaṃ cintyaṃ tad apy ādarāt // stri īti prīti-karaṃ puraḥ pariṇatau hālāhalaṃ kevalaṃ sarvasya vyasanaṃ kila etad adhikaṃ tatra api veśya īti ca prādhānyena tatas tad eva kathitaṃ yat tat-prasaṅgena ca vyākhyātaṃ guṇa-doṣa-jātam ucitaṃ cintyaṃ tad apy ādarāt // cetaḥśvāpadavāgurā daśaguṇasphārasmaroḍḍāmarāḥ kartavyāvadhayaḥ(?) samudralaharīpūrair ivotpāditāḥ nāpi svāmyasamarpaṇena na sakhe sakhyā (?) virodhena vā gūḍhāntarmukhasāhasavyatikarārakṣyāḥ paraṃ yoṣitaḥ // cetaḥ-śvāpada-vāgurā daśa-guṇa-sphāra-smara-uḍḍāmarāḥ kartavyāvadhayaḥ(?) samudra-laharī-pūrair iva utpāditāḥ na api svāmy-asamarpaṇena na sakhe sakhyā (?) virodhena vā gūḍha-antarmukha-sāhasa-vyatikarā-rakṣyāḥ paraṃ yoṣitaḥ // bhasmasnānamahāvrataṃ katipayaśrībhraṣṭasaṃbhāvitaṃ sarvāpahnavahastalāghavakalākūṭākṣaśikṣātmakam pratyāśāpunaruktahāraṇajagaddrohaṃ vivādāspadaṃ dāridryasya nimantraṇaṃ kim aparaṃ dhig dyūtalīlāyitam // bhasma-snāna-mahā-vrataṃ katipaya-śrī-bhraṣṭa-saṃbhāvitaṃ sarva-apahnava-hasta-lāghava-kalā-kūṭa-akṣa-śikṣā-ātmakam pratyāśā-punarukta-hāraṇa-jagad-drohaṃ vivāda-āspadaṃ dāridryasya nimantraṇaṃ kim aparaṃ dhig dyūta-līlāyitam // hiṃsānirghṛṇakarmabhūḥ pratipadānekapramādaprasūs avyāpāradhurandharā pratikṛtā grāmyair jaghanyaiḥ śvabhiḥ śūnyāraṇyasadāpravāsavirasavyāyāmamithyāguṇāḥ kāyakleśaphalāvadhir matimatāṃ sevyā mṛgavyāpi kim // hiṃsā-nirghṛṇa-karma-bhūḥ pratipada āneka-pramāda-prasūs avyāpāra-dhurandharā pratikṛtā grāmyair jaghanyaiḥ śvabhiḥ śūnya-āraṇya-sadā-pravāsa-virasa-vyāyāma-mithyā-guṇāḥ kāya-kleśa-phala-avadhir matimatāṃ sevyā mṛgavya āpi kim // śaucācāravicāravāhyam akhilākāryāhitācāryakaṃ tattadgopyarahasyamantrabhiduraṃ nirnaiśam akṣṇos tamaḥ yattadvāddakalipramādavividhonmādaiḥ piśācāyitaṃ madyaṃ mūrtam amedhyam etad itarād anyasya kasya priyam // śauca-ācāra-vicāra-vāhyam akhila-akārya-ahita-acāryakaṃ tat-tad-gopya-rahasya-mantra-bhiduraṃ nirnaiśam akṣṇos tamaḥ yat-tad-vādda-kali-pramāda-vividha-unmādaiḥ piśācāyitaṃ madyaṃ mūrtam amedhyam etad itarād anyasya kasya priyam // ulkāpātasahodaraṃ sahacaraṃ naidāghajhañjhāmarut jhampānāṃ harakaṇṭhalālitagaradroṇīkuṭumbīkṛtam jihvāgre karapattramitram aniśaṃ tat karkaśaṃ durvaco yasyāste vada kadvadaḥ katham aho sa api svayaṃ jīvati // ulkā-pāta-sahodaraṃ sahacaraṃ naidāgha-jhañjhā-marut jhampānāṃ hara-kaṇṭha-lālita-gara-droṇī-kuṭumbī-kṛtam jihvā-agre kara-pattra-mitram aniśaṃ tat karkaśaṃ durvaco yasyā aste vada kad-vadaḥ katham aho sa api svayaṃ jīvati // caṇḍaṃ daṇḍam akāṇḍa eva kalayan rājā prajānāṃ yamaḥ kurvan durvyayam arthadūṣaṇaruciḥ svasyaiva sa drohakṛt saumyaḥ saumyakaro 'tiviśvanayanānando 'bhinandyaḥ satāṃ saśrīkaḥ kamalākaraś ca suṣamāṃ kāṃ kām aho nārhati // caṇḍaṃ daṇḍam akāṇḍa eva kalayan rājā prajānāṃ yamaḥ kurvan durvyayam artha-dūṣaṇa-ruciḥ svasya eva sa droha-kṛt saumyaḥ saumya-karo 'tiviśva-nayana-ānando 'bhinandyaḥ satāṃ sa-śrīkaḥ kamala-ākaraś ca suṣamāṃ kāṃ kām aho na arhati // saṃsārasya maheśvaro dinapatir dhvāntasya vaidyo rujāṃ prāyaścittam aghasya śāstram aparijñānasya toyaṃ tṛṣaḥ siddhājñā garalasya tīrthasaraṇaṃ vṛddhatvavaiklavyayoḥ saptāṅgavyasanāvaleḥ praśamanopāyaś ca śikṣā satām // saṃsārasya maheśvaro dina-patir dhvāntasya vaidyo rujāṃ prāyaścittam aghasya śāstram aparijñānasya toyaṃ tṛṣaḥ siddha-ājñā garalasya tīrtha-saraṇaṃ vṛddhatva-vaiklavyayoḥ saptāṅga-vyasana-āvaleḥ praśamana-upāyaś ca śikṣā satām // oṃkāraḥ sāhasānāṃ nijaguṇanipuṇapratyavekṣā sukhānāṃ kādācitkaḥ prayogaḥ sakalaparicayopādhivaidagdhyabandhuḥ kaṣṭānām antyakāṣṭhā dhanarasikavaṇiglokayātrāprasaṅgo jīvajjanmāntaraṃ cety alam atibahunā svasti deśāntarāya // oṃkāraḥ sāhasānāṃ nija-guṇa-nipuṇa-pratyavekṣā sukhānāṃ kādācitkaḥ prayogaḥ sakala-paricaya-upādhi-vaidagdhya-bandhuḥ kaṣṭānām antya-kāṣṭhā dhana-rasika-vaṇig-lokayātrā-prasaṅgo jīvaj-janma-antaraṃ ca ity alam atibahunā svasti deśa-antarāya // yady apy asti savistarādbhutakathābhūyiṣṭhanānāvidha vyākhyāyāṃ niravadyahṛdyacaritodāraṃ ca deśāntaram tatrāpi svagṛheṣu guṇavadgoṣṭhīgariṣṭhīkṛta sphāro 'nāratabhāratīrasapariṣyandaḥ sakhe sundaraḥ // yady apy asti sa-vistara-adbhuta-kathā-bhūyiṣṭha-nānā-vidha vyākhyāyāṃ niravadya-hṛdya-carita-udāraṃ ca deśa-antaram tatra api sva-gṛheṣu guṇavad-goṣṭhī-gariṣṭhī-kṛta sphāro 'nārata-bhāratī-rasa-pariṣyandaḥ sakhe sundaraḥ // te vandyā makarandabindumadhurair abhyutthitād akṣarair yeṣā vānti sarasvatīparimalodgārā mukhāmbhoruhāt vandyās te 'pi tadantarālapatitā ye bhṛṅgabhaṅgījuṣaḥ sāndrānandakarambitaṃ jagad idaṃ vindanti nindanti ca // te vandyā makaranda-bindu-madhurair abhyutthitād akṣarair yeṣā vānti sarasvatī-parimala-udgārā mukha-ambho-ruhāt vandyās te 'pi tad-antarāla-patitā ye bhṛṅga-bhaṅgī-juṣaḥ sāndra-ānanda-karambitaṃ jagad idaṃ vindanti nindanti ca // dṛṣṭvā deśam aśeṣam ā jalanidher ālokya kautūhalād āsthānīr avanībhṛtāṃ ca punar apy āgatya deśaṃ nijam kāruṇyāt taruṇaṃ janaṃ prati satām abhyarthanābhis tathā so 'yaṃ saṃprati Jalhaṇena kavinā Mudghopadeśaḥ kṛtaḥ // dṛṣṭvā deśam aśeṣam ā jalanidher ālokya kautūhalād āsthānīr avanībhṛtāṃ ca punar apy āgatya deśaṃ nijam kāruṇyāt taruṇaṃ janaṃ prati satām abhyarthanābhis tathā so 'yaṃ saṃprati Jalhaṇena kavinā Mudghopadeśaḥ kṛtaḥ // vidyābhyāsaparamparāparicayair bālyaṃ kṛtārthīkṛtaṃ tāruṇyaṃ taruṇīnirantaraparīrambhaiś ca saṃbhāvitam asmākaṃ surasindhurodhasi punaḥ śaṃbhāvadaṃbhārcanair vṛddhatvasya viśuddhatāṃ
