vyantibhāvaḥ, anyasyāś ca dṛ ṣṭer apratisandhir anupādāna m aprādurbhāvaḥ. 4. bahujanena te, agnivaiśyāyana saṃsyadiṣyati, bahujano 'pi evaṃdṛṣṭir bhavati, evaṃvādī. tva m api syāt tādṛśa eva ye kecid agnivaiśyāyana śramaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā imāṃ ca dṛṣṭiṃ pratiniḥsṛjanty anyāṃ ca dṛṣṭiṃ nopādante. ima ucyante śramaṇā vā brā hmaṇā vā tanubhyas tanutarā loke. 5. traya ime, agnivaiśyāyana saṃmohāya nāsaṃmohāya saṃyogāya nāsaṃyogāya saṃkleśāya na vyavadānāya saṃcayāya nāpacayāya, abhinandanāyopādānāya, adhyavasānāya saṃvartate. 7. yeyaṃ dṛṣṭiḥ sarvaṃ me na kṣamati. iyaṃ dṛṣṭir asaṃrāgāya saṃ vartate na saṃrāgāya. asaṃdveṣāya na saṃdveṣāya, asaṃmohāya na saṃmohāya, asaṃyogāya na saṃyogāya, vyavadānāya na saṃkleśāya, asaṃcayāya na saṃcayā ya. anabhinandanāyānupād ānāya, anadhyavasānāya saṃvartate. 8. tatrāgnivaiśyāyana yeyaṃ dṛṣṭiḥ ekatyaṃ me kṣa mati. ekatyaṃ me na kṣamati yat t āvad asya kṣamati tat saṃrāgāya saṃvartate nāsaṃrāgāya pūrvavad yāvad adhyavasānāya saṃvartate yad a sya na kṣamati tad asaṃrāgāya saṃ vartate na saṃrāgāya pūrvavad yāvad anadhyavasānāya saṃvartate. 9. tatra śrutavān āryaśrāvaka i taḥ pratisaṃśikṣati. ahaṃ ced e vaṃdṛṣṭiḥ syām evaṃvādī sarvaṃ me kṣamati, dvābhyāṃ me sārdhaṃ syād vigrahaḥ syād vivādaḥ. yaś caivaṃdṛṣṭir evaṃvādī sarvaṃ me na kṣamati. yaś caivaṃdṛṣṭir evaṃ vādī, ekatyaṃ me kṣamati, ekatyaṃ na me kṣamati, vigrahe sati vivādo vivāde sati vihiṃsā. iti sa vi grahaṃ ca vivādaṃ ca vhiṃsā ñ ca samanupaśyann imāṃ ca dṛṣṭiṃ pratinisṛjaty anyāṃ ca dṛṣṭiṃ nopādatte. evam asyāś ca dṛṣṭer prahāṇaṃ bhavati pratiniḥsargo vyantibhāva a nyasyāś ca dṛṣṭer apratisandhir anupādānam aprādurbhāvaḥ. 10. tatra śrutavān āryaśrāvaka itaḥ pratisaṃśikṣati, ahaṃ ced evaṃ dṛṣṭiḥ syām evaṃvādī sarvaṃ me na kṣamati, vihiṃsā pūrvavad yāvad apratisandhir anupādānam aprādurbhāvaḥ. 11. ta tra śrutavān āryaśrāvaka itaḥ pratisaṃśikṣati, ahaṃ ced evaṃdṛṣṭiḥ syām evaṃvādī, ekatyaṃ me kṣamati, ekatyaṃ me na kamati, dvābhyāṃ me sā rdhaṃ syād vigrahaḥ syād vivādo y aś caivaṃdṛṣṭir evaṃvādī sarvaṃ me kṣamati yaś caivaṃdṛṣṭir evaṃvādī sarvaṃ me na kṣamati. vigrahe sati vivādaḥ pūrva vad yāvad apratisandhir anupādā nam aprādurbhāvaḥ. 12. ayaṃ khalv agnivaiśyāyana kāyo rūpī audārikaś cāturmahābhūtika āryaśrāvakeṇa, abhīkṣaṇam anityā nupaśyinā vihartavyam vyayā nupaśyinā virāgānupaśyinā nirodhānupaśyinā pratiniḥsargānupaśyinā vihartavyam. yatrāryaśrāvaka syānityānupaśyino viharato vyayānupaśyino virāgānupaśyino nirodhānupaśyinaḥ pratiniḥsargānupaśyino viharato yo 'sya bha vati kāye kāyacchandaḥ k āyasnehaḥ kāyapremā kāyālayaḥ kāyaviṣaktiḥ kāyādhyavasānaṃ tac cāsya cittaṃ na paryādā ya tiṣṭhati. 13. tisra imā agnivaiśyāyana vedanāḥ. katamās tisraḥ. sukhā vedanā duḥkhā vedanā, aduḥkhāsukhā vedanā ca. i tīmās tisro vedanāḥ kiṃnid ānāḥ kiṃsamudayāḥ kiṃjātīyāḥ kiṃprabhavāḥ. itīmā vedanā sparśanidānāḥ sparśasamudayāḥ sparśajātīyāḥ sparśaprabhavās tasya tasya sp arśasya samudayāt tās tā vedanāḥ samudayanti. tasya tasya sparśasya nirodhāt tās tā vedanā nirudhyante vyupa śamanti śītībhavanti astaṃgacchanti. 14. sa yāṃ kāṃcid vedanāṃ vedayati sukhāṃ vā duḥkhāṃ vā, aduḥkhāsukhāṃ vā tāsāṃ vedanānāṃ samudayaṃ cā staṃgamaṃ cāsvādaṃ cādīnavaṃ ca niḥ saraṇaṃ ca yathābhūtaṃ prajānāmīti. sa tāsāṃ vedanānāṃ samudayam cāstaṃgamaṃ cāsvādaṃ cādīnavaṃ ca niḥ saraṇaṃ ca yathābhūtaṃ prajā na ṃ tāsu utpannāsu vedanāsv anityānupaśyī viharati vyayānupaśyī virāgānupaśyī nirodhānupaśyī pratiniḥsargānu paśyī viharati. 15. sa kāy aparyantikāṃ vedanāṃ vedayānaḥ kāyaparyantikāṃ vedanāṃ vedayāmīti yathābhūtaṃ prajānāti. jīvitaparyantikāṃ vedanāṃ veda yāno jīvitaparyantikāṃ vedanāṃ vedayāmīti yathābhūtaṃ prajānāti. bhedāc ca kāyasyordhvaṃ jīvitaparyādānād ihaivāsya sarvāṇi vedayitāny apariśeṣaṃ niru dhyante. apariśeṣam adhyastaṃ parikṣayaṃ paryādānaṃ gacchanti. 16. tasyaivaṃ bhavati sukhām api vedanāṃ vedayāno bhedāt kāyasya bhaviṣya ti, eṣa evānto duḥkhasya. duḥkhām apy aduḥkhāsukhām api vedanāṃ vedayāno bhedāt kāyasya bhaviṣyati, e ṣaivānto duḥkhasya. sa sukhām api vedanāṃ vedayati visaṃyukto vedayati na saṃyuktaḥ. duḥkhām apy aduḥkhāsukhām api vedanāṃ vedayati visaṃyukto vedayati na saṃyukt aḥ. kena visaṃyuktaḥ. visaṃyukto rāgeṇa dveṣeṇa mohena visaṃyukto jātijarāvyādhimaraṇaśokaparidevaduḥkhadaurmanasyopā yāsebhyo visaṃyukto duḥkh ād iti vadāmi. 17. tena khalu samayenāyuṣmāñ chāriputro 'rdhamāsopasaṃpanno bhagavataḥ pṛṣṭhataḥ sthito 'bhū d vyajanaṃ gṛhītvā bhagavantaṃ vīja yan. athāyuṣmataḥ śāriputrasyaitad abhavat. bhagavāṃs teṣāṃ dharmāṇāṃ prahāṇam eva varṇayati vi rāgam eva nirodham eva pratiniḥ sargam eva varṇayati. athāyuṣmataḥ śāriputrasyaiṣāṃ dharmāṇām anityatānupaśyinaḥ viharato vyayā nupaśyino virāgānupaśyino nirodhānupaśyinaḥ pratiniḥsargānupaśyino viharataḥ. anupādāyāsravebhaś cittaṃ vimuktaṃ. 18. dīrghanakhasya ca parivrāja kasya virajo vigatamalaṃ dharmeṣu dharmacakṣur utpannam. atha dīrghanakhaḥ parivrājako dṛṣṭadharmā prāptadharmā viditadharmā paryavagāḍhadharmā tīrṇakāṃkṣas tīrṇavicikitso 'parapratyayo 'nanyaneyaḥ śāstuḥ śāsane dharmeṣu vaiśāradyaprāpta utthāyāsanād ekāṃsam uttarāsaṅgaṃ kṛtvā yena bhagavāṃs tenāñjaliṃ pra ṇamya bhagavantam idam avocat*. 19. labheyāhaṃ bhadanta svākhyāte dharmavinaye pravrajyām upasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvam. careyam ahaṃ bhagavato 'nti ke brahmacaryaṃ. labdhavāṃ dīrgha nakhaḥ parivrājakaḥ svākhyāte dharmavinaye pravrajyām upasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvam. evaṃ pravrajitaḥ sa āyu ṣmāṃ yasyārthe kulaputrā ḥ keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇy ācchādya samyag eva śraddhayāgārād anagārikāṃ ....... sa evaṃ pariṣadi vācaṃ bhāṣate. ājñāto me śramaṇ ānāṃ śākyaputrīyāṇāṃ dharmaḥ. ājñāyaivāhaṃ tasmād dharmavinayād apakrāntaḥ. 2. atha saṃbahulā bhikṣavaḥ pūrvāhne nivāsya pātracīvaram ā dāya rājagṛhaṃ piṇḍāya prāviśan. aśrauṣuḥ saṃbahulā bhikṣavo rājagṛhaṃ piṇḍāya carantaḥ. a smiṃ rājagṛhe śarabho nāma ḥ parivrājakaḥ prativasati. sa evaṃ pariṣadi vācaṃ bhāṣate. pūrvavat. śrutvā ca punar rājagṛhaṃ piṇḍāya caritvā kṛtabhaktakṛtyāḥ paścādbha ktapiṇḍapātaḥ pratikrāntāḥ pā tracīvaraṃ pratiśamya pādau prakṣālya yena bhagavāṃs tenopajagmuḥ. upetya bhagavatpādau śirasā vanditvā ekānte nyaṣīdan. e kāṃtaniṣaṇṇāḥ saṃbahulā bhi kṣavo bhagavantam idam avocan. 3. iha vayaṃ bhadanta saṃbahulā bhikṣavaḥ pūrvāhṇe nivāsya pātracīvara m ādāya rājagṛhaṃ piṇḍāya pr āviśāma. aśrauṣma vayaṃ tīre tenopajagāma. adrākṣīc charabhaḥ parivrājako bhagavantaṃ dūrata eva. dṛṣṭvā ca pu nar bhagavato 'rthāyāsanaṃ prajña payaty evaṃ cāha. niṣīdatāṃ bhagavān prajñapta evāsane. nyaṣīdad bhagavān prajñapta evāsane. niṣadya bha gavāṃ śarabhaṃ parivrājakam ida m avocat. 5. satyaṃ khalu tvaṃ śarabha, evaṃ vadasi. ājñāto me śramaṇānāṃ śākyaputrīyāṇāṃ dharmaḥ. ājñāyaivāhaṃ ta smād dharmavinayād parivrāja kam idam avocan. yad eva tvaṃ śramaṇaṃ gautamam upasaṃkramyeyaiva tad eva te śramaṇaḥ gautama upa saṃkramyaivaṃ vadati vyākuru vyā kuru ... sacet te paripūrṇaṃ bhaviṣyati vayam tūṣṇīm evābhūt. 8. atha bhagavān śarabhaṃ parivrājakam idam avocat. yo me saced evaṃ vadet, na śramaṇasya gautamasya tathāgataḥ samyaksaṃbuddhas. tam ahaṃ sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca samanuyuñjyāṃ samanugāhyāṃ. tasya sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca samanuyuñjyamānasya samanugāhyamānasya, a nyenānyaṃ pratisareta bahi rdhā ... kopaṃ ca doṣaṃ cāpratyayaṃ ca prāduṣkuryāt. ... tūṣṇīṃ bhūto vā syān madgubhūtaḥ sr astaskandhaḥ, adhomukho niṣpratibhānaḥ pradhyānaparamaḥ tadyathā tvam etarhi śarabha. 9. yo me sace d evaṃ vadet* na śramaṇasya gau tamasya dharmavinayaḥ, tam ahaṃ sādhu ca suṣṭhu ca samanuyuñjyāṃ samanugāhyāṃ. pūrvavad yāvat tadya thā tvam etarhi śarabha. yo me saced evaṃ vadet, na śramaṇasya gautamasya śrāvakaḥ supratipannaḥ, tam ahaṃ sādhu ca suṣṭḥu ca samanuyuñjyāṃ samanu gāhyāṃ pūrvavat* yāvat tadyath ā tvam etarhi śarabha. ... 10. atha bhagavān sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣkaraṇyās tīre pariṣadi sa myaksiṃhanādaṃ naditvā utthā yāsanāt prakrāntaḥ. 11. atha śarabhasya parivrājakasya svakāḥ sabrahmacāriṇaḥ śarabhaṃ parivrājakam idam avo can*. tadyathā śarabha. ṛṣabha ś chinnaviṣāṇaḥ śūnyāyāṃ gośālāyāṃ mahānādaṃ naditavyaṃ manyeta, evam eva tvam anyatra śramaṇād gauta māt pariṣadi siṃhanādaṃ n aditavyaṃ manyase. tadyathā śarabha bhaḍḍalikā puṃrutakaṃ raviṣyāmīti bhaḍḍalikārutakam eva ravati. ... na bhaḍḍalikāva d a si .. tvam anyatra śramaṇād gautamāt pariṣadi siṃhanādaṃ naditavyaṃ manyase. tadyathā śarabha śṛgālo bheraṇḍākāravitakaṃ v. raviṣyāmīti śṛgālaravitakaṃ ravati. evam eva tvam anyatra śramaṇād gautamāt pariśadi siṃhanādaṃ manyase. 12. atha śarabhasya pari upasaṃpadaṃ bhikṣubhāvam. evaṃ pravrajitaḥ sa pī ṭh a ḥ parivrājaka ḥ yasyārthe kulaputrāḥ keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vastrāṇy ācchādya samyag eva śraddhayāgārād anagārikāṃ pravrajanti. pūrvavad brāhmaṇaparivrājakānāṃ sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣkariṇyās tī re sanniṣaṇṇānāṃ sannipatitānām ayam evaṃrūpo 'bhūd antarākathāsamudāhāro divāvihāropagato divyena śrotreṇa vi śuddhenātikrāntamānuṣeṇa. śrutvā ca punar yena sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣkariṇyās tīraṃ tenopajagāma. 3. adrākṣuḥ saṃbahulā brāhmaṇaparivrājakā bhagavantaṃ dūrata eva. dṛṣṭvā ca punar bh agavato 'rthāyāsanaṃ prajñapayanty evaṃ cāhur. niṣīdataṃ bhagavān prajñapta evāsane. nyaṣīdad bhagavān pra jñapta evāsane. niṣadya bhagavān saṃbahulān brāhmaṇaparivrājakān idam avocat. 4. kā nu yuṣmākaṃ saṃbahulānāṃ brāhmaṇaparivrājakānāṃ sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣka riṇyās tīre sanniṣannā nāṃ sannipatitānām antarākathā viprakṛtā. kayā cātha kathayaitarhi sanniṣaṇṇāḥ sannipatitāḥ. ihā smākaṃ bho gauta ma saṃbahulānāṃ brāhmaṇaparivrājakānāṃ sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣkariṇyās tīre sanniṣaṇṇānāṃ sannipatitānām ayam e vaṃrūpo 'bhūd antarākathāsamudāhāra ity api brāhmaṇasatyāni. ity api brāhmaṇasatyāni. iyam asmākaṃ bho gautama saṃbahulānāṃ brā hmaṇaparivrājakānāṃ sumāgadhāyāḥ puṣka riṇyās tīre sanniṣaṇṇānāṃ sannipatitānām antarākathā viprakṛtā. tayā ca bho gautama kathayai tarhi sanniṣaṇṇāḥ saṃnipatitāḥ 5. trīṇi imāni brāhmaṇasatyāni. yāni mayā svayam abhijñāya sākṣīkṛtvopasaṃpadya praveditā ni. katamāni trīṇi. 6. brāhmaṇā evam āhu ḥ. sarve prāṇino 'vadhā iti vadamānā brāhmaṇāḥ satyam āhur na mṛśā. śreyāṃsaḥ sma i ti manyante sadṛśā sma iti manyante hīnā sma iti manyante yad atra satyaṃ tad anabhiniveśya sarvaloke maitrāsahagatena cittena viharan ti. idaṃ prathamaṃ brāhmaṇasatyaṃ yan mayā svaya m abhijñāya sākṣīkṛtvopasaṃpadya praveditaṃ. 7. brāhmaṇā evam āhuḥ. yat kiṃcit samudayadharmaṃ sa rvaṃ nirodhadharmakam iti vadamānā brāhmaṇāḥ satyam āhur na mṛśā. pūrvavad yāvad iti yad atra satyaṃ tad anabhiniviśya sarvaloke udayavyayā nudarśino viharaṃti. idaṃ dvitīyaṃ brā hmaṇasatyaṃ yan mayā svayam abhijñāya sākṣīkṛtvopasaṃpadya praveditaṃ. 8. brāhmaṇā eva m āhur. na mama kvacana kaścana kiñcanam asti nāsy a kvacana kaścana kiñcanam astīti vadamānā brāhmaṇāḥ satyam āhur na mṛśā. pūrvava d yāvad iti yad atra satyaṃ tad ana bhiniviśya sarvaloke amamāya nto viharaṃti. idaṃ tritīyaṃ brāhmaṇasatyaṃ yan mayā svayam abhijñāya sākṣīkṛtvopasaṃpadya praveditaṃ.
